ATHENS — There will be a lot more national interest in Georgia’s game against Alabama than this past week’s game against Vanderbilt.

"Facing a third-and-nine, Georgia dialed up a corner blitz, sending Braylon Conley after Vanderbilt quarterback Blaze Berlowitz. Conley couldn’t get to Berlowitz in time, with the Vanderbilt quarterback recognizing where Conley was coming from.
Berlowitz found Sherrill, who had gotten behind Rasean Dinkins. The Georgia safety appeared to be in zone coverage and thought that he was passing Sherrill off to KJ Bolden."
I'm not going to pretend that I knew who Junior Sherrill was prior to the Vanderbilt game on Saturday, but it quickly became obvious that he is their Alpha-receiver and most effective offensive weapon. I don't know if Vandy read the corner blitz or not, but I'm sure they were happy to have the Rasean Dinkins on Junior Sherrill matchup when it materialized. Look for Alabama to try Dinkins, Conley, and/or DeMello Jones if the matchup with Williams presents itself. Whoever it is, they will have to have help over the top from a Safety (preferably KJ Bolden) to quickly make a play on the ball. Even if Williams is well covered in a 1-on-1 situation they like his chances of making the catch. Bama will be more than happy to get a PI penalty from any of them who get out of position in coverage (Jones seems to have this tendency). I hope to see Robinson IV covering Williams (with Safety help), while Russell is being swarmed by Chris Cole and company. I love the idea of the corner blitz also, but like everyone else I hate when it backfires.
GO DAWGS!
Connor only used the phrase “speaks to” once in this article: “That Roldan was targeted on 40% of his snaps speaks to the Georgia staff seeing something in the young wide receiver.”
The biggest problem that I saw overall Saturday was the poor communication in the secondary. Twice we had blitzes on and no one picked up that WR which left him wide open. ??? That's basic fundamentalmfootball skills for guys in coverage. Either figure out how to get a havoc-producing pass rush with 3-4 guys (like we used to do and how other teams still do this season), or communicate better and pick up those WRs.
Jimminy cricket...
Hope Chris Cole, Gabe Harris, and Jordan Hall among others have a havoc creating monster day !! That would help our secondary allot if the Bama QB can’t make accurate throws due to pressure. Go Dawgs !!
I had heard of Sherrill; knew he was Vandy's go-to receiver. But honest to God, for whatever reason I was unfamiliar with our own Braylon Conley. If Kirby thinks he's one of our two best cornerbacks, I trust his judgement, but from what I saw Saturday, he was out of position a lot. Not blaming him on the long TD (that was on our safeties), but he just didn't seem to cover well, in my opinion. If he's our starter Saturday night, I pray that he (and the rest of the secondary) have a better game than they did against Vanderbilt.
