ESPN is citing sources saying the CFP and ESPN are nearing a deal to expand the playoff field from its current status of 12 teams to 24 teams in 2027.

With 24 teams the Dawgs will never miss the playoffs.
Why not a 48 team playoff?
Go, Dawgs!
Unlike basketball, cinderellas rarely beat top seeds in FBS football. It will be embarrassing. Just an excuse to make more $$$.
16 is the MOST that needs to be in the playoffs. With 24, you will be having teams with 3 and 4 losses in the playoffs like they deserve a chance for the national championship. I guess on the bright side, UGA will be guaranteed a playoff spot every year as long as Kirby Smart is the coach.
I'll hate seeing the SEC championship game go away. ðŸ˜
This change is garbage.
At least I don't have to worry about blocking off my Saturdays next Season anymore since all the games will be absolutely meaningless. I can start watching in December when Georgia starts their sudden death season.
So far we haven’t had 12 teams qualified to be playing for a national championship. Obviously, there aren’t 24 teams qualified. This is a bad idea, imo.
Corporate overlords flexing. Making sure we all know that they run things and can do whatever they want to everything we hold dear. That's more valuable to them than money.
And the destruction of CFB continues…………
This is the dénouement for for CFB, at least for me. Free agency, pay for play well beyond what NIL was sold as, ESPN et.al dictating really odd prime time games, deconstructing rivalries, changing rivalry games to neutral sites, and essentially rendering the regular season as not nearly as important. All for more money and blowout wins in the first round. But HEY, my team "made the playoffs". Empty victory for at least half of them, and most of the fans of game as we knew it. They will totally devalue "the playoffs" and the regular season big games in the name of more TV rights and revenue.
They have deconstructed most of what is/has been good about college football and turned it into minor league NFL. More accurately, they have turned it into nothing more than a vehicle by which more revenue is extracted, and nothing more. The things that made CFB unique have been systematically destroyed despite protests from the fans. Their hubris leads them to believe the sheep will just keep watching. I stopped watching NFL years ago, for a plethora of reasons….never looked back, will never watch again. With this cherry on top of 24 team playoff and mandated changes that go with it, I will be done with CFB. When you change the product so much that it does not resemble the product anymore, what have you accomplished, what is the product? The folks with the money running this are quite sure everyone will continue to watch. "You will have NFL lite and you will like it" seems to be the very confident message. Keep watching, you will get more of the same sure as the sun rises.
I know some will say good riddance, and that is ok. We can moan and groan about it, but as long as we are good little minions and keep swallowing the slop, they will gladly keep feeding to us. Much of the greatness of the sport has been washed out, and the final blows are coming. I figure I can find plenty of things to do on Saturdays that bring me some joy, not the frustration of watching something that was once good be destroyed. UGA has held on to some character/tradition in the face of all this, but will eventually be put into the fold. After over 40 years of following the Dawgs, I just do not think the draw will be there going forward. I wonder, why must we destroy things in the name of "progress" in today's world. Everything does not have to be reinvented. But here we are.
Go Dawgs
What will be special about being guaranteed to make a watered down playoff, for anyone? I just don't see it.
I'm to the point where I don't care. 24 is too many IMO. I think 12 is the sweet spot, and I can see the logic in 16, but not past that. We all saw two teams last year that were wasted picks over more deserving teams who would have provided a better matchup. No disrespect to Tulane or James Madison, but they were wasted picks. And they both proved that on the field.
I hope you're wrong but fear and suspect you're entirely correct.
Once the goose is cooked it's hard to uncook it.
This is bad on many levels, but I'm really going to hate that a Vanderbilt, for example, will now make the playoffs. As a result, they'll be able to go out on the recruiting trail and say, "hey, come here and accomplish the same thing you would at Georgia or Alabama. We made the playoffs, too." That's the kind of crap (along with buckets of money) that they used to attract Jared Curtis.
