ATHENS — We saw the best and worst of Gunner Stockton on display on Saturday.

Not a doubt in my mind, nor in others, especially his team mates….Gunner is our guy, our leader, and at times our savior. Therein lies the issue. Gunner has to refuse to allow his "savior complex" to override his grasp of fundamentals and situational awareness….batted balls, especially off the helmet of your center or the arms of defenders, passes sailing at sonic speed over the hands of receivers, and fumbles caused by running into your blocker aren't allowing team mates to do their part in a team victory.
As a receiver, I’m all for him but if I see Sacovie White-Helton fielding punts again I may lose my mind. You know it’s bad when, every punt, the Georgia radio crew is begging him to catch the ball.
had to give it the 24 hour rule before commenting. My take is this, I hate it for Gunner but it’s not entirely on him. And to CKS point of undisciplined plays and dumb penalties, everything about this game screams a very tired team. Let’s face it, based on how we played and how Bama played, that game in T-town took a hail of a lot out of both teams. Add in an Auburn team that had two weeks to rest and prepare, recipe for exactly the kind of effort we got out of our boys yesterday in Athens. Time to rest up, heal a little and get ready for round 2 of the season. Based on so many strange games yesterday One thing is glaringly clear, parity has arrived and no team is head and shoulders above the rest. So I say to my fellow pup fans, lower expectations and enjoy the game. It is after all just a game and as long as our team keeps on fighting to the final whistle, I’m good with whatever transpires. Go dawgs.
Interesting how much of the accountability is being thrown Gunner's way... not saying he couldn't have done better on the turnovers, but you'd think there would be at least as much focus on a total Dawgs defensive collapse and an inability to run block 🤔😳
Great writeup... sums up my PoV exactly... still love the Dawgs and can't wait for them to come out rejuvenated for the Gators!
We don't beat Bama w/o Gunner and we probably lost to AU because of his mistakes but he's our guy and it doesn't get any easier, got to move on.
Some of you “armchair qb” fans can be so fickle. As flipside said below, we don’t beat Bama without Gunner. Do some of you remember all those down third lasers he threw against Bama to keep moving the chains? Seven straight weeks of Kirby’s game practices and the actual physicality of the games themselves will take it’s toll on any team. This team is completely exhausted and rightfully so.
I have no doubts we will finish strong and we will probably be seeded high enough to get a first round bye in the playoffs.
I believe this team has a special chemistry and will come back stronger than ever against the Lizards! Go Dawgs!
With whatever injury Georgia says Gunner had, (I still say his bell was wrung when his head slammed the turf) it affected his game. The decision making and touch on the throws of the interceptions, batted balls, having to run out on the field for the FG miss, and some of his check downs didn’t produce results. Am I saying he shouldn’t have come back in at all? No, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he misses some practice time this week. The turnovers, boneheaded penalties, no run blocking by the O line, no tackling by anyone on defense, and play calling to throw it more to start the game instead of establishing a running game contributed to the loss. Take away auburn’s bye week and Georgia wins this game 9 out of 10 times. Georgia played down to their opponent after the 14-0 lead. The margin for error is gone and we’ll see more mobile QBs which is Kirby’s kryptonite. Go Dawgs! Please refocus and beat those lousy stinking gaytors.
I simply cannot believe this Bama-beating team lost to lowly Auburn…I need a bye week from this botched game! It is only going to get harder from here on….! Play like this and the playoffs are only a dream!
Teams play back to back games ALL the time. Terrible excuse. We were the more talented team playing at home. Losing was simply inexcusable.
My thoughts are that we scored enough points to win but when you can’t stop the other team from scoring then your mistakes will do you in. Up 14-0 and let them just drive down and score was to me when the wheels came off not to mention Bobo running Nate up the middle then throwing him an out pass. Why can’t we throw across the middle to our TEs or WRs like other teams do. Very winnable game even with the errors. Need to find one of these QBs every team has
Plenty of blame to go around in this game. Being ranked #1 was rat poison. And it showed on the field. But 2 int's and a fumble at midfield with a minute to go in a tie game were 2 big to overcome. Maybe Bobo learned to not run his QB on the 1st play of the game.
Gunner Stockton is QB1 for what was the #1 ranked team in the country. He made several costly mistakes yesterday, so of course, he's going to get a broad amount of blame and criticism. It goes with the territory. Just like after the Alabama game, he got tons of praise. And remember how Kirby Smart basically chastised fans and media about how they talk about Stockton and the offensive coaches. He boosted them up, but humility really was just a week away. And yes, @Kudzu, the defense does deserve a fair amount of blame. However, they were worn out in large part, because of Stockton's turnovers. And the fact of the matter is, when the defense absolutely HAD to get the ball back at the end of the game, they did so. They should have never had to see the field again, unless it was in OT. But Stockton's fumble wrecked those plans. As for run blocking, I don't think our O-Line played that badly. I think the difference between what we saw against Auburn and what we saw in Alabama is Nate Frazier. If Frazier doesn't play at all Saturday, I believe Phillips would likely have gained 100 yards again. As it was he went for 68 yards on 10 carries, or 6.8 yards per carry, WITH THAT SAME OFFENSIVE LINE. (As an aside, Bo Walker, who's done fairly well in spot appearances, got zero carries against Auburn). Just watch the difference in running styles between Phillips and Frazier. Phillips gets the ball and boom, he's at the line of scrimmage. No juking or faking. Just straight ahead. Go look back at his TD run yesterday. He goes straight up the middle. Two Auburn secondary guys try to close in on him and he just beelines it for the endzone. Frazier, meanwhile, on even the simplest of dive plays, always looks like he's trying to fake out 10 guys before he gets to the line. The lineman would NEVER admit it, but I guarantee you they think it's easier to block for Phillips than Frazier. And it shows in the stat lines. Even when Frazier is healthy, Phillips is just quicker to the LOS than him, and all he needs is a crack.
