ATHENS — Kirby Smart didn’t hide after the game.

I can see some of your points for some positions to get the grades you gave, but overall, every position group gets a big fat F! No tackling, no blocking, dropped passes, dumb penalties, turnovers, no life after getting up 14-0. The defense definitely missed Bolden yesterday. Technically Gunner did have the ball poked out, but because he ran into his own player. Other than the three TD drives, this game was hard to stomach and watch. Coaching gets a big fat F as well. The great halftime adjustments didn’t happen. Bobo’s play calling was great vs bama, not so much yesterday. No containment plan for their QB from the defense. Every game on our schedule looked very winnable until now. Georgia will see a lot more mobile QBs the rest of the season. One in which torched us in two games last season. Go Dawgs!
too soft on these grades.
The standard is the stabdard6.
I love gunner but his performance yesterday was an F. Three t/o’s and fumbling to allow Auburn to drive and win. I love the kid but based on that performance yesterday ( not considering previous ones), that’s a failure.
all things taken into account we needed a loss to keep our edge. I feel better about facing Florida after stewing for two weeks with a bad taste.
Go dawgs
I see it differently:
QB…D+ he said the hit was not a factor… thus lower score.
OL…D+ being generous
Linebackers…D
Special Teams…F- … if that is possible
Overall… D+ generous
Coaches…D to D+
I have ranted on many sites how I feel about this LOSS! Never should have happened to a #1 team...period.
The most important aspects of an offense and defense is controlling the LOS and the play of your QB. At best, we warranted a "C" for both the offensive and defensive line. Auburn ran for 192 yards. Call the rushing attack whatever you want, but Brown scorched our defense much of the day with his legs. Missed tackles, poor play in the secondary, and over 20 unanswered points by Auburn made the Dawgs look like a bumbling group of rookies - certainly not close to the supposed #1 team in the nation. We only mustered 113 yards on the ground, and although we did mount an impressive drive towards the end, too many mistakes, turnovers, botched executions, and penalties sealed our fate.
Auburn wanted the victory more, and we gave it to them.
I am not buying the excuse of being too tired, mentally exhasted, or whatever. All SEC teams have the same hurdles to face. NO, we simply couldn't execute and that's what it always comes down to in the end.
I would say you have to give the defense a D- for poor tackling and horrible angles alone. There were so many opportunities to limit plays that were flat out missed. QB play has to be the same or even worse. Everyone is focused on the turnovers, which were really bad, but it was the overall pass selections and bad misses that stand out most to me. His accuracy was terrible and the selection of targets was even worse. He was throwing passes that had no chance of success and much risk and I believe the confusion with him leaving the field for the missed FG contributed to that. I thought he should’ve been pulled given his play was so uncharacteristically poor.
He definitely did not lose the game for them; this was a team and coaching loss. Coaches have to make hard decisions and some of those were not made or were made poorly but the players just flat out failed to execute. The standard is the standard and the team fell well below that Saturday.
It was a weird day. Even Kirby looked like he wasn't there emotionally. It was too bad Gunner fumbled, because it looked like nothing but green grass in front of him. The defense missed a billion tackles. Regardless of what they say, Gunner didn't seem to have his faculties.
Failed in all three phases of the game. Embarassing - favored by 20 and losing by 3 (-23).
Offense F
Defense F
Special Teams F
Kirby should accept responsibility for this loss instead of making excuses.
Overall, I'd say this was one of the very worst defensive performances I've ever seen in the Kirby Smart era. Absolutely the worst tackling. The secondary was awful. You giving Gunner a C is generous. I'd say D. Good for 7 minutes, awful for 45. Nice drive to tie, but then a fumble. His worst game as a starter (I give him a pass for the Notre Dame game, as he'd never started before). Overall, just a dreadful performance from the entire team (except for the wideouts).
They better figure things out—across the board—before the Florida game. Because Florida WILL be ready, and are seriously motivated.
Gunner's fumble wasn't a punch-out. He ran into Bobo and the ball popped out
Overall I agree with your assessment, although I really can't agree with an overall C—D probably—and that includes preparation.
Was I at the same game ? The number 1 team loses to an unranked 20 point dog at home and only gets a C . I wish my professors graded the same way I’d be a neurosurgeon.
Don't be such a homer Conner. That was nowhere near a C performance. It was a mid D at best. Both lines looked terrible, the O-line especially. The D was on the field all day and never got a chance to catch their breath, but still contributed to this disaaster with missed tackles. I also don't blame Gunner for his atrocious play. It's hard to make accurate passes when you have a concussion and the whole world is spinning like you just drank a bottle of whiskey. The coaches should have pulled him after the 2nd quarter. Kirby clearly didn't learn Saban's halftime, unemotional ability to pull his star when they are not at their best and to do whatever it takes to win. 1 bad game isn't am indictment, but gees Kirby, protect the kid from himself. Puglisi looked good. Knowing Gunner had a shoulder issue, why did we keep playing him? It was obvious to my non-football wife Gunner wasn't right after he got hit. Makes no sense.
Take a look at the stat sheet. The Dawgs were notably better at every stat but 1- turnovers. Hard to win in the SEC loosing the ball 3 times. The fumble was especially hard to take, as it looked like the Dawgs were well on the way to a game winning field goal. Also, the 2 late hits on their QB were inexcusable. I believe the Dawgs will move on from this game. I'll take this loss better than another loss in the 1st round of a playoff.
Good learning experience that will payoff down the road road. Many total breakdowns in all phases of the game. On a lighter note I made a bunch of money not buying into points spread on this one.🤪
Quarterback: C
I doubt Stockton would agree with you on that C. Three turnovers were the difference in the game and he was responsible for all three of them. He is one of the best QBs in the country and I would still not trade him for anyone else, but he and the rest of the team showed how physical and mental fatigue can impact performance. It was obvious on the defense as well with poor tackling and disastrous penalties. This team is made up of some very high character men and I am convinced that we will be very pleased with how they respond going forward.
GO DAWGS!
