ATHENS — For a team whose strength is supposed to be its defense, the Georgia Bulldogs have shown some noticeable cracks in recent efforts.

Did anyone hear the work tackling prior to Auburn? I mean as a major concern? That is fixable. It will need to be as Tramell Jones can scoot as can Chambliss. Both are elusive QBs. Georgia's #1 nemesis. Stop the run game.
Yes I rewatched the TN Bama game and was shocked to see how good TN tackled both the QB and the running backs. What a difference. I know I see things through UGA eyes, but it is so frustrating when they can't tackle. TN was bringing them down one on one. I was surprised how much the difference between TN and UGA tackling stood out to me.
I have been impressed with our tacking all year up until the Auburn game and most of our defenders I thought were trying to tackle their QB at the upper thighs or waist and chest area and I kept thinking hit him around his knees and he won't be thinking so hard about running.
No good back ever goes down because someone bumped him, unless that bump is pushing him out of bounds. I'm not sure when that plan came about but it seems far too prevalent. I want to see a Greg Blue, bone crushing, hit him in the chest or mid-section tackle that makes the runner rethink his future as a football player. A good runner will run out of a leg tackle because the legs are constantly moving and getting a handle on them is difficult. But for the love of all that is good, wherever you hit him, hit him hard and wrap him up!
Lmao....c'mon! They showed 1 noticeable crack....in 1 recent effort.
The Dawgs and The Tide were two beat up (cracked) Teams last week and it showed. Both lost in a less than stellar effort....after fighting a trench war involving hand-to-hand combat the week before. Yet....The Dawgs....unlike Bama...kept it close & nearly pulled it out of the jaws of defeat, in the end.
The defense just ran out of gas. Too bad this "Pit Stop" came after the Auburn game, and not the Bama game. UGA could've used this Bye Week...last week. Lol
Let's NOT make it more than it is. If they look remotely like they did vs Auburn, in the 2nd half of the Season...I would be shocked.
Lol.…I pity "all" the Alligators in Florida next week. The Dawgs won't bother to sort through em before they chomp down. They will demolish the Gators 54-3. Defense will be responsible for half of those points in turnovers and field position. The rest will come from Gunners Arm and Legs.
Go Dawgs!!!!
Plus, auburn had a week off. If they had played the week before, Georgia would have won that game regardless of the TOs. I think they had a week off last season, too. That needs to stop. The AD needs to start speaking up about them having an off week,, but Georgia doesn’t.
Trying to tackle a 240 pound QB by hitting him high does not work. Brown ran through our tacklers all day.
Yep...bad timing and bad luck got em. But....that's only 1/16th...or, 6% of their eventual 16 game Season.
Imo....The Dawgs are in much better shape than the vast majority of CFB teams....wrt talent, depth and experience. And, it gets better every week. That will put em over the Top in the CFP this Season. There's only a couple of Teams I put on that plateau, with the Dawgs.
I like UGA, Alabama, Texas & Tennessee in the end....with the Dawgs & Tide meeting one more time (at least) in the SECCG.....AND....Possibly a 3rd time, in the CFP. Lol....talk about a Rivalry! UGA vs BAMA is becoming a mistress classic. Long overdue...imo.
That said....I don't completely discount the chances of Mizzou, Ole Miss, LSU, UK or Auburn....any of whom, could get Hot in the 2nd half of the Season. And....if nothing else....play spoiler along with Carolina. I knew this was gonna be a fun Season. Wish my Dad was here to see it.....Lol.
Georgia had a tackle problem against Auburn. I have never seen the defense tackle so poorly. Whether they were beat up after playing Alabama or not... how are they going to handle the rest of the season and the games they have to play to get into the championship? That can never be an excuse. They have depth; the players behind the starters need to step up. Because going forward, they will be needed. Every team is going to have those hard days and those games where they are beat up. Teams that handle it will be in position to win it all.
Lol....the backups were beat up too...or, did you not see the Bama Game?
Just sayin'. The Dawgs have counted on the "backups" all year. Last week at Auburn, was no exception....imo. Starter is a loose word at UGA.…and "backup" is meaningless. You better be ready to go now!...not the next series….or game. Like Puglisi was, when his number was called.
You could call a few guys "Starter".... like Bobo and Stockton. The rest can be moved around....cause, they are cross-trained....which adds draft value and versatility. If they don't start....they get significant playing time.
For instance....did you notice the number of players that either touched the football or made a tackle in the Bama game as opposed to the Auburn game? For example....UGA had 57 Total tackles in the Bama game....vice, 70 tackles in the Auburn game. Meaning....they were beat up versus Auburn....and were on the field longer.
Lol…They were on the field longer....Arguably...because they were all so beat up and sore, they couldn't make the play or tackle that would stop a potential winning Auburn drive in the 4th quarter. I don't recall the last time that happened to a UGA Defense.
Oh yes I can....the SECCG vs Alabama 2021. Inexplicable defensive collapse...and blame placed on the QB...(Stetson Bennett). Just like right now. Lol. The Dawgs went on to win the Natty, that year. Those things happen to the best of em. The Dawgs know how to rebound. That's the thing....imho. They are consistent.
Yep. Tackling is sort of an important part of any defensive scheme.
Lol....that's why it's the first thing you learn how to do....in Mighty Mite Football at the age of 7 or 8. It's one of the core fundamentals. Like blocking, running, throwing, catching, carrying the football, taking a hand-off...etc..
Speaking of which....did you notice that Stockton fumbled, while carrying the ball in the arm that was injured in the 1st quarter? I think that's what caused the fumble when Bobo backed into him and he ran into Bobo. He was carrying the ball properly.…sort of (should've had it tucked under the right armpit). But that right shoulder was still an issue...I think.
Imo....the defense wasn't the only banged up unit. Everybody was effected by the Bama game. Physically and emotionally.
Kirby tries to keep the Dawgs on a relatively level emotional plane....but, you can't help but, put a little extra juice in that Bama Game on the road.
The Dawgs parted with the mantra, "Maintain an even strain" for that one game....and, I'm good with that. Even if it meant losing to Auburn…Lol...although, I would've rather, it not been on Dooley Field.
So many excuse makers here. You don’t win championships with that attitude. The tackling was poor also against Bama. So was ball security. And football is physical by nature. Every team deals with it. We have better depth than nearly everyone. LFG!!
Bad tackling or business decision? A 6'3" 235 lb QB barreling down on you at full speed calls for a business decision for most if not all of the UGA DB's. 3 of the starting DB's are just not interested in tackling. The good news is that FU and MS QB's are both under 200 lbs.
Which 3 DB's? I haven't really been paying attention to the d's that much. But...I will.
@zoomsuperfly ....
No excuses. But, I am coming to the defense of a normally great "Defense"....on a team that's only lost a handful of games in 10 years. Just sayin'....every team has a game, like last week's. But, most teams have em every year.
I just don't see any reason in attempting to analyze the Auburn game by trying to assert the " defense can't tackle". That's a reach for a Top 5 Defense.
Imo....It's useless to analyze this game....cause it's such a wild point. Which gives cause for looking outside the box for answers. UGA's performance was "Out of the norm"....so to speak. Most of the stuff people are talking about, like tackling....won't be an issue going forward, anyway.
For reference sake.....I'm talking about games where everything including Special Teams breaks down.....missed extra pts & FG's....muffed snaps....shanked punts....penalties....dropped passes.....turnovers....missed blocks & tackles....wrong routes...injuries....sky's the limit, when you're talking about those kind of collapses. Lol.
If you could analyze " it" and explain "it"....maybe you could prevent it. But, I don't think so..."It's" like fate....nothing you can do, but grin and bare it. And, move on....back to the status quo vs Florida.
REF Game.....The Dawgs had 1 against South Carolina in 2019....3 weeks after a physical & emotional game vs Notre Dame....AND....1 week after a physical game in Knoxville vs Tennessee.
REF Game..….They had another vs Alabama in '21 after most of the team contracted the Flu over the previous 2 or 3 weeks. The Defense actually looked a lot like it did vs Auburn last week....imo.
Go Dawgs!.......They're gonna "murder'ize" the Gators in 7 Days to the tune of 54-6. Then we'll hear crickets again on DawgNation. Lol
