ATHENS — There are plenty of Georgia fans and college football commentators who were not impressed with how the Georgia offense looked on Saturday.

I am not an offensive coach, but my guess is the Dawgs will need another Bama-type offensive performance to win in Oxford, unless the D shows up again in a big, havoc- producing, Chambliss-smoothering kinda way.
Watching the offense in the second half was kind of painful. I’m still scratching my head why Georgia was so hell bent to make the wide receiver screen to work when it was apparent Florida was hell bent to shut it down. The play calling was painfully conservative, but maybe that was on purpose, given the big lead and the way the defense was dominating. We did have a couple of nice drives in the second half, one stopped by a fumble (on a darn wide receiver screen!) and the other ending in a field goal to make it a three score game.
I’m all for having winning as the primary goal, and if conservative play calling gets that done then that’s what needs to happen. BUT my concern is UGA developing the reputation among offensive player recruits for “shutting it down” on offense once they build a significant lead. It’s already challenging for UGA to attract QBs and WRs for some reason that I don’t understand. UGA needs for those recruits to imagine themselves as the next Matthew Stafford, George Pickens or Brock Bowers. I love watching them run the ball and the high-speed energy that the Dawgs defense plays with. If they’re winning 24-0, they have no reason to put the ball at risk. I’m just not sure how that will impact the recruiting effort.
Cubelic needs to lay off the wacky backy. Stockton: 13/23, avg of 4.4 yards per PASS against a team that ranks 98th in the country against the pass! Stockton missed some wide open WRs down the field and Bobo fell in love, yet again, with the bubble screen, which didn’t yield sh- but a fumble.
The offense **** against Auburn and Florida. If it doesn’t perform better, we’re going to lose on Saturday. Let’s go Dawgs! Put it all together!
Seems like I read if the offense didn’t get back to Bama form we would lose to UF. Now we whipped UF and back to can’t beat Ole Miss. Guess we will see.
