Re: Georgia football identity: Athlon notes 6 preseason All-Americans, but only one first-team
Amen, brother! I agree with everything...BUT....your take on the '25 offense. Imo....THIS will be their finest hour. Lol
The Dawgs have an enormous amount of talent on Offense. What they don't have, is.…"Experience". That'll come.
By the time UGA plays Florida...this offense will be flying like a fighter jet. Till then….Kirby and Bobo are gonna deploy the "B2 Bomber" strategy, and hover stealthily over the first part of their schedule, with a full payload of Bunker Busters.
When the time is right....and "Kirby Bobo", has accumulated as much experience as possible on both sides of the ball....Operation Natty Hammer, goes into effect. The rest will be history.
THIS is the year I've been waiting for. Ever since UGA acquired Bobo and Stockton....this is the year I've had circled. They went out and got Gunner & Bobo everything they need to succeed....running backs & receivers.
The offensive line has always been, at the very least, above average. This year is a toss up, as to just how good they will be. Depends on the growth between January and September....and, knowing the intensity and focus of that UGA Program.…I'm betting there was a ton.
Re: SEC Quarterbacks: Arch Manning, Gunner Stockton lead into deep list
My money's on Garrett Nussmeier as the best actual player at QB next season. Whether he gets a chance to show it will depend on how well the 5 starters that they picked up from the portal - 2 at WR, 1 at TE, 1 at C/OG and 1 at RT - play this year. And whether their tailback can make a huge jump from his true freshman to true sophomore season. In either case my belief is that LSU is going to have 3 QBs - Nussmeier, Daniels, Burrow - starting in the NFL in 2026.
Re: Georgia football identity: Athlon notes 6 preseason All-Americans, but only one first-team
You somehow managed to miss the key points. First a nitpick, the name is Jermaine Burton, not James Burton. Second, UGA had five first round picks from the '21 class (including the number one overall pick), and they had a record number drafted off of that great, National Championship team. As many of us on this site discussed before the season started, that D was probably one of the greatest in UGA history, if not the greatest, and one of the greatest in CFB history. The speed and talent on that defense are still underrated imho! The DL was faster than some backfields and the LB's were unbelievably fast. None of this was a secret. I was personally discussing it before the season started with other UGA fans here. Yet, at the SEC media days, not one of those players was even selected to the first string all SEC team (never mind AA) except for Davis! It was an incredible miss on their part—the number one player drafted to the NFL wasn't even selected as all SEC by the media pre-season! The key point is that talking heads and media "experts" are often, if not usually, wrong. Dissing the 2025 team preseason shouldn't worry our fans in the least. Of course, this doesn't guarantee anything for UGA's '25 season, but as I said, UGA tends to do better when disrespected and underrated like 2021, and unlike 2024.
As to your discussion on our offense, this is what you are missing: Stockton's first start in CFB was against that ND team. They ended up being the #2 team in CFB, BTW. Bobo was trying to protect him and win the game. That wasn't an easy task. Stockton will be much better in 2025 imho. Most QB's, even the great ones, get much better in their first 5-10 CFB games. I can't think of many who faced a task like Stockton did in their first CFB appearance. Second, our RB room is very underrated this year imo. If they stay healthy, Frazier and McCray are going to provide devastating and contrasting punches, and the rest of the room is stocked with talent! The receiving room appears very strong to me after the transfers and the addition of the youngsters. The one question mark I have for '25 on offense is our OL. If they are great, the UGA offense will be great. If they are SEC average, UGA should still have a good offense, although they probably won't be great. The defense does not appear to be as dominant as the '21 defense, so that is a potential choke point, but I never underestimate Kirby's D's. I'm optimistic about 2025, but injuries, the D, and the OL are my question marks.
Re: Kirk Herbstreit calls out ESPN personality for UGA fandom
Yet Herbstreit had tears in his eyes when Ohio St won the title…he’s a pompous hypocrite. This shouldn’t be a story
Re: SEC Quarterbacks: Arch Manning, Gunner Stockton lead into deep list
@MontanaDawg Arch Manning started 2 games: Louisiana-Monroe and 2-10 Mississippi State. He didn't play well against ULM: 52% completions, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Yes, it did give the folks in Austin some heartburn. He was a lot better against Bulldogs West: 26-31 for 325 yards and 2 TDs, but again a 2-10 team at home. Plus Arch Manning isn't the son of Archie Manning like Peyton and Eli. He is Archie Manning's grandson: the son of Cooper Manning, who probably would have had a decent career as a possession NFL WR - an Ed McCaffrey type - had it not been for a spinal condition that caused him to give up football. Cooper Manning is actually the oldest, so if he had the skills to play QB instead of WR, he absolutely would have like his younger brothers did. So we have no basis for believing that his son Arch has exceptional QB ability. Ironically the folks in Austin regard Arch Manning to be this great dual threat QB but they are delusional: he has nowhere near the speed, quickness or change of direction of his father. How quickly the folks in Austin have forgotten Sam Ehlinger (1900 and 33 career rushing yards and TDs) let alone Vince Young.
Also, while Arch Manning was the #1 QB and overall recruit (according to Rivals) in 2023, I have scanned the 2023 Rivals 250 and that appears to have been a down year. More guys from the 2024 Rivals 250, including WRs Jeremiah Smith, Ryan Wingo and Ryan Williams, UGA safety KJ Bolden and QB DJ Lagway, have made names for themselves already.
