Re: Carson Beck applies Georgia experience, leads Miami to 27-24 win over Notre Dame
CBeck looked good. Very polished at the position. I wondered how he would throw coming off that injury/surgery. Carved ND up until the Mia OC tried to run out the 2nd half clock with very predictable running plays. Looked like a Bobo offense in the 2nd half. Makes you wonder how UGA would've done vs ND last year had CBeck played.

Re: Georgia football winners and losers following Week 1 win over Marshall
Definitely worried about the O line and the lack of consistent playing together limiting gelling as a unit. Wilson was a man with his hair on fire, as well as Gibson and Cole, and I believe after being able to let loose much of that pent-up aggression Saturday, they will be even better as they settle into their roles. Definitely lots to be excited about on the D - Hall looked good, and the DBs were making life very tough for the receivers.
I know you can't cover everyone that had stock rising, but how about Pugs?! Did a great job with his arm and legs when he came in. Stockton played great as well and really happy he has that first game under his belt and should be more settled as the season moves along. His first real test comes in Neyland in 2 weeks.
Just awesome the season is finally here and Go DAWGS!
Re: Georgia wants to be âsmartâ with how it uses Gunner Stockton in rushing offense
Gotta get Frazier going. As much as he ran the ball Saturday, I thought he had more yards than he actually did. Still not impressed with the O line considering the level of competition Georgia played Saturday.
Re: Georgia football winners and losers following Week 1 win over Marshall
Phillips is very fast and he sees the hole quickly. He looked like our best back Saturday. O-line needs to improve, especially on short -yardage-straight-ahead plays and pass protection. Gunner was rushed on any attempt to throw deep downfield.
Re: Social media sounds off on Georgia football win, SEC standings and Carson Beck debut in Week 1
Beck was a little - make that a lot - full of himself last year, and that showed in his behavior - visibly frustrated when receivers dropped passes, pouting on bench by himself, etc. I think he lost the locker room with the Lamborghini; the fancy clothes he wore for NIL photo shoots when he strutted into the locker room surrounded by videographers instead of teammates in every Dawg Walk; his preening on social media with his Miami girlfriend, etc. He was he proverbial Emperor with no Clothes! He got back on board in the Tennessee game, as evidenced by his running over some tacklers instead of taking that ridiculous dive at the end of runs, and his teammates responded positively the rest of the way.
having said that, a lot of the offensive struggles were not on Beck. Our offensive line play was awful last year, as evidenced by how poorly we ran the ball, and our receivers were at the top of FBS stats with dropped passes. Aaron Murray, and Greg McLeroy also both pointed out in their podcasts last season that Georgia receivers were not getting enough separation from defenders which led to Beck interceptions when he was forcing the ball into tight windows.
I will pull for Gunner Stockton! He is a tough kid and a leader, and all in for the Dawgs, but Beck will play on Sunday. Gunner will not.
Re: 3 takeaways from Georgiaâs 45-7 win over Marshall: Offensive questions linger
I really wasn’t all that thrilled with pass protection. Stockton was under duress in some situations in the first half and was hit as he made one throw. This against very weak competition.
Re: 3 takeaways from Georgiaâs 45-7 win over Marshall: Offensive questions linger
Mostly agree, Mike. Especially concerning is O-line’s failing to just push Marshall’s D-line back on short yardage plays. On the Frazier for no gain play you mentioned, at least half the O-line was standing straight up. Very poor fundamentals. For some reason, we just never seem to just push D lineman back two or three yards. Pretty sure we have the talent, but nor sure about the coaching of the O-line. Gotta improve, or it could be a long season.
Re: Social media sounds off on Georgia football win, SEC standings and Carson Beck debut in Week 1
Was happy to see Beck do well and wish him the best; unless Miami plays the DAWGS. He was a DGD and was loyal and did his best last year. There were tons of issues that influenced the season and it definitely wasn't on Carson alone by any stretch. He felt he had to make the difference on every play and that resulted in some misses but many of those misses were not on him and the rest of the team shared responsibility. A breakup was needed for both I believe and it looks like both will be fine.
The one thing that concerns me this year is the O line. If you go back and watch that game, there are a ton of missed blocks (and Gaston had quite a few), particularly on passing plays, that if it is a better opponent, would have done serious damage to the DAWGS. I'm at a loss for what is going on with what used to be a huge strength for the DAWGS, but it really needs to be addressed. Just way too many RBs getting hit within 2-yards of taking the hand off and way too much pressure on pass plays where rushers were simply missed.
Re: Georgia wants to be âsmartâ with how it uses Gunner Stockton in rushing offense
"When it presents itself" will be much less against SEC defenses, but I think Gunner will work to perfect his craft. He fakes and pulls very well, he will have to judge when to take off quicker against real defenses.
