Heard on a Sirius xm today they had a guy on who has a talk show in Gainesville forget his name,Bobby ,Billy something like that he said the reason the rivalry has grown of late is because Ga fans are scared Fla is catching up. Are they really that arrogant?

Has the rivalry grown? Seems about as it ever has. But they did improve last year....I don’t doubt we’ll Kirb stomp them this year, but they have improved.

Lol, how many 5 star players does Florida have on their roster? Zero would be the answer. Explain how they are catching up?

  • KaseyKasey Posts: 7,295 mod

Because apparently Mullen can coach up talent the best

  • Denmen185Denmen185 Posts: 4,442 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

2018 UF had 2 5* stars on their roster, Martez Ivey and Cece Jefferson. Both have left with as of yesterday neither having been drafted nor signed a UDFA contract. No further comment needed! 😂

Offensive line on both teams will determine the game.

Ours is (imo, and many others) is the best in the nation, while theirs is mediocre at best.

Hope you're right. Their OL WAS mediocre but will be worse in 2019 as will their defense after some key losses to their run defense.

  • KaseyKasey Posts: 7,295 mod

We don’t know yet. It’s certainly an unproven line with little experience. I’m not underestimating them bc for some reason they really believe in themselves

Mullen's offensive scheme doesn't require 5 star talent. The main benefit of option and spread based offenses is that it allows you to perform greater than the sum of your parts. Oregon played in a BCS title game against Auburn and a playoff title game against Ohio State (hammering defending champs FSU in the first round) with teams that not only had virtually no .5 stars, but had more 3 stars than 4 stars. Ditto the West Virginia teams that beat UGA in the Sugar Bowl and absolutely hammered Clemson in the Orange Bowl. (Speaking of the Sugar Bowl, not very many 5 stars on Texas last year either.)

Maybe the lack of 5 star talent will hurt Florida on defense. But last year except for a 3 game stretch of UGA, Missouri and South Carolina (during which they went 2-1) UF only gave up more than 30 points once.

UF Looked awful in certain games last year and they are proud of their season.

You should remove the question mark from your post title.

Catching up meaning going from not bowl eligible to bowl eligible. Yes, they are catching up. Good for them. It’s no fun beating up weaklings.

I may be wrong but I thought I remembered Florida laying an egg against Missouri and losing badly to them after playing us and then winning a nail biter against Carolina. That would make them 1-2 over those 3 games, not 2-1.

Their fans are dying to be back. Last year I was on St George Island for Labor Day weekend, which was the Gator opener. You should have heard all of the jorts/tank top wearers yelling “We’re back , baby” when they scored a TD with the jump pass they remember from Tebow. They were all hugging and squealing, and it was clear they were celebrating the way they scored more than just the TD. It was rather amusing to see them joyously grasping at straws.

I kinda admire a good team made up of three star players, very well coached, etc. Unless that team is Florida; then they s u c k and I h a t e them.

Florida is way behind the curve we're riding, but that doesn't negate the usual caveat: On any given Saturday...

No matter how much better our players might look on paper or how much worse, losing is always an option for either team unless they do everything right and have a modicum of luck.

We haven't won anything yet! Just like Florida fans we sound like fools when we act like we have (not that that stops any of us, including me, from enjoying being the Offseason National Champs).

    Go, Dawgs!

Doesn't matter what Cousin Eddie or anyone else says. Sad they feel like they have to play mind games to beat us. The days of Florida getting in our heads are OVER. When our players line up against theirs--our execution, talent and depth will win the day. Remember--being chippy and overconfident doesn't win games. And wishing so hard to win that you look like a fool won't get it either.

They are probably getting better. But them getting better, does not mean they are catching up. We are getting better too, but at a faster pace than Florida. I think the gap is growing.

Mullin did quite a bit with far less at MSU. I'm not ready to get cocky just yet, UF dominated us for over a generation with multiple HCs. I'll wait till we have more recent history on our side before getting superior.

I'm not ready to give Mullen the credit that a lot of people want to give. He had one SEC winning record and that was because he had an NFL QB. Maybe he 'formed' Dak into an NFL QB or maybe Dak would have been anyway. He had (4) 4-4 records and (4) losing records. He had Miss St at #1 the year of his winning record, only to lose 2 of the last 3, not including the loss to GT in the Orange Bowl.

If Franks becomes an NFL QB, I will take back what I've said. If not, my jury is still out on Mullens.

If franks becomesn NFL QB, the Apacolypse is truly upon us.

I thought that with Johnny Manziel. Thankfully we are still here....

I just took a stroll to Alligator Alley. Holy **** Batman!!! They honestly believe that Franks will be drafted high next year. They think the QB class in next years draft is average and Franks is the best in the class.

SOMETIMES IT IS REALLY Hard to figure out just which fan base is MORE delusional, is it Florida?, or maybe it’s Tennessee? Sometimes you can throw in Auburn too. Right now I say that Florida just edges out Tennessee. But it’s awfully close.

  • PharmDawg2054PharmDawg2054 Posts: 2,185 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

If Florida's entire team transferred to UGA tomorrow... How many of Florida's players would be good enough to take a starting spot?

  • Raiderbeater1Raiderbeater1 Posts: 1,201 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

Possibly Van Jefferson at WR and that’s it. Most likely wouldn’t be up to the blocking Standard we require so he still wouldn’t start.

  • pgjacksonpgjackson Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

I don’t know about that. They were crap for generations until Spurier came along. Then they had Meyer, another all-time great. Aside from those two guys fla has not been good. I’m not sure Mullen is on par with Spurrier or Meyer.
