Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Coach Smart currently has the 2nd best win % of any UGA football coach

Not counting interim coaches
Smart sits at a win percentage of 75%
Only Robert Winston, from 1984, with a 5-1 record good for 80% sits higher.
I am not sure, just due to volume, if Smart will finish #1 but he should hold on to the #2 spot
Richt finished 4th at 74%, just behind the 74.1% of Herman Stegeman who was 20-6-1 compared to Richt's 145-51 record

We all hope you are correct, but no Georgia coach has ever scheduled like Kirby is scheduling. Plus with playoffs and SECCGs, the odds of more losses are also increased. Kirby could finish with a lower win % than Richt but be considered a much bigger success.
If we look at just the last two years then Smart sits at 79%
For reference Nick Saban is at 87% in his 11 years at Alabama
Was the #1 guy not an interim coach?
Saban's first three years at Bama, he was at 76%.
read the first line, my friend
I'm as optimistic as anybody other than the rabid Disney Dawgs. Still in fairness to Coach Richt and with the knowledge we can't know the future...
Richt overall at UGA - 74%
Richt over his first 3 seasons at UGA - 80%
I think that's what confused me. We exclude interim coaches and then list an interim coach. I get what you mean now though.
I think it's fair then to ask the question: Is the SEC better, worse, or the same then it was when Richt was coach? We've got to put these results on a sliding scale if we intend to make them meaningful.
read the year you listed, my friend
Geoff. The east was weak early in Richt's tenure, but Florida killed it under Meyer and Darth Visor had the best run in Lamecocks' history. The east is down again, stay tuned. The big difference looking ahead is of course recruiting, we're pulling in talent at a level we've never seen before in Athens.
typo, I don't type 1800s often
what interim coach did I list?
Lol, ok, you've utterly confused me. When you listed Robert Winston in 1984, it didn't ring any bells but thought there must've been a period when Vince Dooley took a sabbatical that I didn't remember.
Now, I realize he's from 1894 and I'm clear as crystal. Don't mind me, carry on.
