Sturgill Simpson's new album Sound and Fury dropped. So grabbed it, NF's new album The Search, Sturgill Simpson's Metamodern Sounds, and anniversary edition of Miles Davis Kind of Blue

Not to have a beer and listen to music the next few hours

The new SS is a deviation, but I like it. More rocking, like his live shows. Looking forward to watching the anime film that accompanies it.

I plan to watch it today. Looking forward to it. I like that each of his albums are different

well after listening to all of them repeatedly I gotta say they are awesome

and the anime was cool. if you want to hear the album just watch it. it is just a long music video with the album playing in order.

Never listened to SS, but discovered him in the joe Rogan podcast. Seems like a good dude and plan on checking him out.

Recently discovered the white buffalo and that has been my kick the past few days

he is awesome but each album is different than the others. so liking or hating one will have very little bearing on the other three

Only listened to a song and a half and turned it off. Wasn’t impressed, will have to give it another go, but seeing a lot of mixed reviews... he moves out to L.A. and comes out with this, think that has some of his fans concerned (wondering if he’s selling out making what LA producers/record labels want). Not saying that’s true, just what I’m hearing from fans that hate it.

anyone looking for country def. won't like it

the first song is just an instrumental

it is sitting at at 95% on google, 80/100 on metacritic, etc. seems like most the reviews have it around 4 out of 5

and he lives in Tennessee I think. his wife had a 3rd kid and that is why he hasn't been touring the last couple of years, he had a quote about it recently

everyone won't love it, that is for sure. but it is a rock album (whatever rock vernacular one wants to use like synth or glam or whatever)

check out "make art, not friends" and "mercury in retrograde" as I think they're two great songs on that album. it really shines in the netflix film though. 40 minutes long, worth a watch.

a lot of folks did not like A Sailor's Guide and I love the entire album too, so I get people not liking this

I respect Sturgill completely. And I’m all for an artist following his muse and not doing what’s expected. I kinda wanted another metamodern sounds in country music just bc it’s so different then the popular crap they play.

I saw him live and it was more of a rock show in the jam band way. Not my cup of tea but I support him. This move probably isn’t for me but I won’t hate on it

I'm a huge music fan but country is low on my list of preferences, just above rap. With that said, there are some rap and country songs I love, along with classical, reggae, techno, heavy metal. (My preference is rock, progressive/alternative, 70's thru today, from Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead to the Pixies and the Replacements, to Weezer and Cake and Spoon.) In other words, I love good music, regardless of genre.

On the country front, I have to give credit to @tfk_fanboy and a handful of other folks for introducing me to Sturgill Simpson, White Buffalo, Gangstagrass, and Chris Stapleton.

metamodern was just amazingly good. I don't think he could replicate that even if he tried. I am just guessing but I think he wants to make each album sound different because 1) it would be hard to repeat any of his albums 2) his musical influences are so varied and he wants to pay homage to each of them in some way

I know it'll probably be a few years but I can't wait to see what his 5th and final album is like. and if he holds true to his word about only doing 5 albums

I'll def. be watching it again

The voice in the opening track is Joe Rogan and the voice in the closing track is the great Walton Goggins
