Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

I don't have the cache on this board to be the one to reminisce and hypothesize, but I gotta think the big fella would have LOVED the Kirby Era and be excited (I can't say optimistic) about our beloved Dawgs' future.

whaddya got loran
Ok, maybe I am the one.
I grew up moving around with my Dad being in the USAF. Two generations had already matriculated through the Classic City and I knew my UGA pajamas and my stuffed Uga were important, but actually watching, or even listening to, games was not a reality. We lived in England in 1980 (and I was 6), so that championship is mythological...luckily recordings existed! I heard about broken steel chairs long before I ever saw footage of Lindsey running. I heard about "A Freshman" long before I saw Bill Bates counting stars. By the time I learned what a hob-nail boot was, I was a father (for 2 days at that point). I watched the game in the hospital, but didn't hear Larry's call until later. His deep-seeded fear, his complete commitment, and his glorious, obscure vernacular were part of what taught me that being a Georgia Bulldog was different than all the other poor saps who were not so blessed. The current crew is fantastic, talented, and professional, but every now and then I wish they would be considerate enough to fall through a piece of furniture and unabashedly tell us about it. Munson earned his own verb among our faithful...and he was a DGD!
Great story OBD, and you're obviously a talented writer. Good thread too. I loved Larry and his voice still stirs my heart and gets my adrenalin going. Hopefully more folks will share their Munson stories on here.
Thanks AD! I guess the bye week is the only time the rest of the Dawgs aren't Munsoning 😎
Relating to another thread about using the term “we,” I’m going to quote Larry from the 1980 TN game, but it’s not the call you might think. Count the “we’s”
”Kick is a long spiral, gonna come down and ...WE hit him! He fumbled the ball! And a Dawg missed it! It’s rolling the 10, the 5, it’s in the end zone, GET ON THAT ball! WE cracked it outta his hands! but because of the artificial turf it was bouncing, WE landed on it with our chests! WE landed on it with our heads! and it would squirt again! Now they argue who got it as it went out of bounds! .... Safety. Well they gave US two points and WE could have scored on the play very very easy. This has NOT been a night for old Lady Luck.”
(I was 15 listening with my dad to an old AM only radio 📻)
I wonder how many chairs he’d have broken in the Rose Bowl?
I read this one in an article about Larry after his death ...... “ Ok Get the picture “ .... we were playing Ole Miss in the 70s over there in a thunderstorm and heavy rain for most of the game , back then weather didn’t suspend play
During the 3rd Q , Larry say well, LORAN says he’s done for the night , going in out of the rain , but me thinks he’s going to a local cemetery and look up a dead man named John Daniel
LoL d....nm wish I had heard this ....I would have fell out of my chair 😂
1978 Tech-Ga game (29-28 comeback):
Larry, “Now there’s no sense going away because you KNOW it’s not gonna end like THIS!”
A Munson Masterpiece was 1978 in Lexington. UGA drove down the field and kicked a late field goal (Rex Robinson). Exciting but far from uncommon. Munson made it sound like Victory in Europe was on the line.
@donmedeiros maybe this can help today.
Munson would be 98!
Happy birthday, to an ATDGD!!
Great date for a birthday today. My youngest son turned 10 today.
