AUBURN, Ala. — Kirby Smart was asked three times about winning the SEC East following No. 4 Georgia's 21-14 victory over the No. 12 Auburn Tigers. And each time he answered, it became clear the win over Auburn was a bigger deal than punching a third-consecutive trip to Atlanta. "There's significance in coming here

My take on Kirby's comments are that "we are not finished" not that the accomplishment is insignificant. Winning the East is a HUGE step because none of the other goals are possible without doing that first. Of course that is true with each of the games we have won and the scheduled three left to be played this season. I believe the coaches contracts call for a bonus for winning the East so it is significant, especially the less highly paid staff.

I just realized we will have faced FIVE “top 23” defenses in consecutive games. Kentucky (22) in a monsoon, Florida (9), Missouri (19), Auburn (13) and Texas A&M (23). Also, throw in Notre Dame (18). To put that in perspective, the best defenses Bama has faced are Texas A&M (23), Tenn (38), LSU (44) and S.C. (49). NOTE: we also faced or will face all of those teams. I think this explains much of our offensive struggles not to mention all the issues related to our rookie and/or injured wide receivers. I doubt seriously there is a QB who could do any better than Jake Fromm under similar circumstances. Go Dawgs!!!

Connor: Spurrier won it "92-96"? All five of those years?

I'm not sure I want UGA to make the playoffs. I fear (but hope not) that the DAWGS will be embarrassed on a national stage. In fact, I hope LSU does not embarrass us too badly. The only chance we have to beat LSU is if the defense can contain Burrow. I don't think our offense can compete in a high-scoring game. But I didn't believe we would be Auburn, so what the heck do I know?
