imageFormer Georgia great David Andrews gives strong endorsement for Georgia's next offensive line coach

Georgia is in search of a new offensive line coach, following Sam Pittman's departure for the Arkansas head coaching vacancy. And former Georgia center David Andrews made his thoughts very well known on who would be an excellent candidate to fill that role. Andrews — who since leaving Georgia has won two Super Bowls

Well lets back that money truck up Georgia and bring him on.

I think Luke would be a great choice if he would commit to 2 to 3 years. Would hate to see him come and leave for a head coaching position after a year. He would be a great fit.

We will likely lose DC Lanning soon, unfortunately, and current OC Coley is not what we need as an OC - Recruiter yes, but OC, NO. Hire the former Ole Miss HC, OC and DC at the same time! Rich Rod as OC at UGA, heck ya! Mike MacIntyre as DC at UGA, ditto!

I would hire this guy in a heartbeat not only as the OL coach but as the OC as well.

Luke is a very likeable coach. Seems energetic. Should be a great recruiter. He also seems honest, and never looked like the right fit for Ole Miss., partially because of his honesty. Sorry, I just don't trust that program...

He would be a great hire for UGA.

I don't believe Luke will take the job. He may feel too much at odds with Smart's methods of head-coaching. Just a gut feel. He will hold out for a head coach somewhere. Quite a step down for Luke.

His record was not that great at Ole Miss....any thoughts on that gang? Just askin'.

Hope Lanning doesn't jump ship as well.....really do not like this NCAA carouseling.

I agree Mr Andrews.. He may not be available too long, he'll end up somewhere as a Coach or OC, UGA is just as good as any school out there..GoDAWGS!

You can thank Hugh Freeze mainly for that.. Yet another school gives a corrupt coach another chance.. Some schools will do anything to win

Oops with first post, cannot have 2 DC's. Luke as DC and Rich Rod as OC. Probably short term fix but a good one. And while we are at it, how bout there receivers coach?

  • MaconDawgMaconDawg Posts: 11 ✭ Freshman

Oops w second corrected post - not sure how Luke would take to being just Offensive Line Coach and not OC reporting to former Ole Miss OC. Too early. But all three would make a nice addition, if Dan Lanning does get HC job at Memphis or some other school.

Hines Ward has shown major interest in the past to be the WR coach..yet he's continually overlooked. Who better than 1 of the all time best to learn from? Definitely isn't Cortez Hankton..GoDAWGS!

From an SEC HC to an SEC OL coach!! We have to be paying him some dollars to make it worthwhile. Things have really changed at UGA. If he does come to Athens, I don't see him staying long unless there's more to this than we are seeing, but I like the hire if it were to happen. The silly season is in full swing indeed.

Ole Miss is paying his buyout and whatever salary he gets from UGA will offset his buyout. Typically (obviously every contract is different) this is a good way to get a top notch coach who will take less money and prestige because the checks amount to the same regardless.

The guys that play usually know who can do the job and who can't, and if Andrews thinks he's good enough, that's fine. I don't understand all of the people who keep saying that Luke won't come because it would be a step down. First off, he didn't do a fantastic job at Ole Miss. he may have been honest and all of that, and he did step up in the wake of the Hugh Freeze scandal, but I don't think anyone thought he was a great X's and O's kind of guy. And more to the point, he has NO job right now, so what's so bad about being O-Line coach at UGA? He could do worse. And the former guy IS now a head coach in the SEC. So give it a whirl, Matt, if you're so inclined.

Personally, I think the O-LIne coach at Kentucky ought to get a shot. The Wildcats led the league in rushing this year by a lot with a converted WR at QB and bunch of nobody's at running back. Last year, Bennie Schnell led the SEC in rushing behind that line. Their coach is a former All-SEC lineman and he's overlooked because he's at Kentucky. But those guys moved people this year and last year. But you know, what do I know? I never thought Pittman would wind up as a head coach.

This feels like a pretty significant turning point for the program. The season ended on a disappointing note and the offense struggled all year, and Pittman's loss (and potentially more to come) could hurt our 2020 class. Next season feels like the one where we start clearing hurdles or continue the slide back to good-but-not-great.
