Clemson's DC Brent Venables "schemed hard for Newman." I guess so, 52 to 3! UGA will provide a much better cadre of circled wagons than WF did against Clemson. Newman is quite aware of this. Yet Clemson talks up Newman as someone to be respected as a dual-threat QB...but they stopped him cold. Three points is not much respect. Mathis and Beck need to really compete for the start...Newman must prove himself and live up to the hype. IMO.

41 passing yards vs Clemson. Let him compete. If he wins the position, great. If he does not, that’s fine too.

Well said, Mike Griffith. Losing a great receiver, especially when he's basically the only one who's playing on that level, really simplifies the defensive game-plan.

Newman must feel like it's Christmas day every time he looks at all the talent he'll have available to him. It's going to be very interesting to see how the offense comes together.

Losing some weapons is certainly an issue. But this is a one year starter who had 41 yards against Clemson. No one expected them to win, but 41 speaks for itself. Happy he is here to compete, but no way should he be given the position just based on one year.

Let him compete ! I am just glad UGA has a DT QB ! We haven't had one of those since Quincy Carter and DJ Shockley !
