Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:

- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

There is that.....
And because our 5000 acre lease in Abilene and 10,000 acre lease in Colorado City, TX is part of the Texas Parks and wildlife game management program.....we have to kill a certain amount of deer each year to stay on the program....
It's more deer meat than we can eat...... so we donate 500-1000lbs of fresh venison to a local food shelter each year. And we pay to have it processed for them.
So more environmental and feed the hungry... a win win.
This is true.....but Johnson city is pretty much Marble falls......
But you are correct.....it is Johnson city Texas
Funny you sent that. Didn't know I had a bunch of hogs in front of me because I was typing away.
Looked up and they were all running away.
While I agree 100 per cent , that Lonesome Dove is the most entertaining and best starting point for a Texas history lesson. I highly recommend James Michener's Texas it covers 400 years and is entertaining in its own right. But sadly there is no Gus in it... but there is nothing like Gus in any other of McMurtry's books either.. what a great character. Good luck @texdawg I am jealous !
It is now because Marble Falls has gone from sleepy little town to not so sleepy big town with chit tons of rich people and enormous homes.
A chit ton of rich people is correct. But the bluebonnet cafe is still really good.
A must read book on this genre is “One Shot - One Kill ..it tells the story of Vietnam **** Carlos Hathcock ... 93 confirmed Kills ...it’s chilling
btw ... the snipers of the 60’s - 80s used .308 ... cause that was the common round of the US military... in modified Win model 70 or Rem 700 bolts and actions
Hathcock once shot a VC on a bike that was carrying ammo and arms to a hidden camp ...with a modified .50 cal single shot rifle ...distance ...just over 1 mile
this rife was the pre curser to all the .50 rifles today
these guys on the range were consistently hitting targets @1000 yrds with their .308 s
Ha, that’s actually Steamboat. You do a little hike up from Morningside lift. Love the area, definitely wouldn’t mind having a place near the mountain.
Some of the best hunting is in SW Georgia. My wife is from San Diego though, and she refuses to cook or eat any of my birds, even duck, so I eat it alone. I do share with my golden retriever, Dooley, though.
Gresham ..... you just have to sneak / lie about it to them... use some of the great recipes on this thread ... cook it and tell em it’s chicken 🐓...
I heard a guy say once ...you don’t have to tell women the truth ....just tell em something they can believe .... don’t think he meant about food though .....something else ....like dear meat
not advocating lies ....... although once I was leading a Sunday School class and were reading a passage where Abraham had to lie about Sarah to save her from a wicked King ...I asked the class if it was ever ok to lie in Gods economy?
no one said a peep .... finally the pastor who was listening back stage as it were ,
said yes ....when your wife puts on something and comes and and asks you “ honey does this make me look fat . “
bahhhhhhh😂😂😂😂😂😂
@skidmarks Back in the 70's I lived in Az and was into reloading. Not a vet, but my friend was. We reloaded 357, 44 mag, 45 semi-auto and some rifle 22-250 and 30-06.
My friend was quite the marksman hitting silhouette targets at 1000 meters with an open-sight m14 while in the service.
Firing a 7.62 nato round, the m14 most closely resembled the .308 in it's ballistics.
Wow. I wonder if that's a newer trail. Knew Steamboat like the back of my hand between 95-2005.
My favorite mountain
While I am not a fan of those that hunt purely for sport, I totally understand why it is sometimes necessary for the apex predators on this rock to manage populations in the wild.
And will gladly provide an address if @texdawg has too much venison on his hands.
Eat what you kill, and Go Dawgs!
A little hunting with the son, Texas history, military snipers, gun calibers, ammo reloading.......great man thread.
Somewhere Tim Allen is giving a man grunt.
