ESPN analyst explains why Georgia football is 'best bet' to win 2020 SEC title
Georgia football last won the SEC in 2017. But the Bulldogs have represented the SEC East in each of the past three seasons. Under Kirby Smart, Georgia has ascended to being one of the top programs in the country, and oddsmakers continually view them as such. The problem for Georgia is that there's also usually a

UGA by far has the toughest conference schedule this which will help them win it all this year. Having a veteran QB will be a plus. Everyone will be on a level playing field as no one was able to complete spring practice. They will be forced to play more freshman than usual which plays to the advantage of UGA and the rest of the SEC as we are used to getting young players ready faster than other conferences. Go Dawgs!!!
I hate to say it, but the Gators are the biggest threat to Georgia winning the SEC this year. I like Georgia's hypothetical chances in Atlanta against whoever turns out to win the SEC West. There is a slight home field advantage in the Benz, and Georgia's young roster will have developed enough experience to be hitting on all cylinders by that time of year. However, getting past the Gators will not be easy - they will be hungry after three years of losing to the Dawgs and return a lot of key pieces on their offense. Sure, we could split the Alabama and Florida games, but if the L happens to be against the Gators, there's a good chance we don't make it to Atlanta. The good news is that Kirby always has the team pumped to play in Jacksonville and there's no chance we overlook this game.
@rhclaghorn; I just don't see Florida being a threat. Our defense has been their problem for 3 straight seasons and we could potentially be better on defense in 2020 than in 2019? They are replacing a lot of upperclassmen talent on their offense that had problems with our predominantly underclassmen defense. If our offense is indeed better than 2019, then this will not be a close game. The final score in 2019 made the game look closer than it really was. Go Dawgs!
You play to the strength of your capability with staff and players. This is a process refined over time and this year many teams will be scurrying to make up the lag time the virus has caused. You simply cannot predict, except with armchair only accuracy, the outcome of this most unusual upcoming season. You can "what if" scenarios, sure. If UGA beats Bama but loses to FL..there goes the SEC East and the SECCG. If UGA loses to Bama but beats FL....and so on...? Who knows which elite teams will have the decided advantage? The ones with the most returnees? The best elite recruit supporters? Which coaching staffs have riffled the cards the best early on? So many variables.
It will be intresting to see how far UGA goes....I say all the way!!! GO DAWGS!!!
@UGA66 : I agree with you but all results are a prediction until the games are played. The prognosticators are usually wrong on their predictions of a games outcome. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have built careers on predicting the draft and are wrong the vast majority of the time. The predictions and the "what ifs" make for interesting conversation and good internet banter which is a great escape from the predictions of COVID-19.
When and if football is played at all.
