WATCH: Georgia's Kirby Smart makes light of wizardly improvement in 27-6 win
Georgia football coach Kirby Smart ran his record against top 10 teams to a gaudy 9-4 with the 27-6 win over Auburn on Saturday night
Comments
The Vols have a better run game than Auburn.
At this point it's hard to say, utk may have a better overall team than Auburn. They will at least be just as physical.
That may be true but I think I’d still call it a win if tenn got twice as many rushing yards. Btw, Auburn had 39yards rushing. I didn’t notice the number ones from the D line out much in the second half either.
Solid win, but I strongly believe that either Daniels or Mathis should have played the second half. While a nice story, I am not naive enough to believe that Bennett will lead this team to a playoff spot. Giving Mathis mop up duty on the last possession is the same type of QB mismanagement that led to the problems with Fields.
Mike, I know you’re posting this late on deadline, but it’s hard to read with so many errors. I don’t know if you are differentiating between “drives” and “possessions,” but the Dawgs didn’t score on their opening drive/possession. It’s obviously easy to overlook or mis-remember the bad in the heady afterglow of a dominant win, but facts matter to a reporter. You’re better than this. Go Dawgs!
It's good to see Smart's clear-eyed assessment getting attention. For the past week, pretty much everyone in the media was acting like the game against Arkansas (who may well prove to be a more respectable opponent than we initially thought) ended at halftime.
I have no idea where this QB situation is going, but for now it's clearly working. I like Bennett, and would be more than happy to see him prove me wrong, but I'm still a skeptic. I'm just not sold on his deep ball ability, and wonder how sustainable it will be to have attempts limited to 20-30 yards or so downfield. But maybe with more reps and an increasing comfort and familiarity level, it will improve? I have to say, it is refreshing to watch a quarteback who's able to extend plays in the pocket.
