I don't think that would have happened on the CMR era, and I'm sure it won't happen in the CKS era

I agree considering UGA players can't sneeze the wrong way without getting suspended..

You guys need to stop pretending like this doesn't happen at all the top schools. Please take the rosie colored glasses off, all these schools have boosters giving players and recruits $400 handshakes, and being graded on a different scale in their classes. We all recruit the same players. What makes KS so moral? He came from Bama and they are about winning at all cost. When was the last time a Bama play got in trouble or got suspended for a game?

Agree on Bama comment but would point out that UGA has dismissed players for offenses involving stealing, drugs and/or firearms. Some went to other D1 schools including SEC schools. Only last year we had a top player kept out of 6 games for an alcohol issue. We are one of the top 25 that has suspended and or dismissed players for offenses that go unpunished or "handled internally" elsewhere. The university runs the football team not vice versa.

The heck with the rest, UGA has proven that they hold their players to a higher standard! Let's play football and "Go Dawgs!"

@Denmen185 I like the coment about the university running the football program not vice versa, but is that a result of UGA football underachieving the last 35 yrs? Because lets face it the teams who have dominant/winning programs football programs seem to have a lot more influence on their universities than UGA. If you aren't winning can you really go in a room and throw your weight around? Like Chris Rock famously said "you are only as faithfully as your options."

@jaynole81 You could care less whether these kids get an education or not. Just say it.

@jaynole81 What came first? That is, which is the cause and which is the effect? Maybe the value placed on integrity (sorry FSU onlookers - you can google the word) being higher than winning a football game is why the football program has "underachieved". At least the 90+% of SA who don't make a lifetime salary in their sport have a degree that is valued.

It's no secret that UGA admin has put a number one priority on growing into one of the finest public academic institutions in the country. Does that come at the expense of athletics? Maybe. But there is no reason to indicate that a championship would change the priority of the school. And I think most of the fans on this board agree: We don't want a harassing, groping shoplifter associated with the University of Georgia, even if he's a front-runner for the Heisman.

A former defensive coordinator at UGA, said it is very tough at UGA because of the testing scores required. That basically you are handcuffed due to requirements being some much higher than schools you have to compete against in recruiting.

Don't know if anyone's noticed lately, but unlike a decade or more ago, today many of the top 5 and 4 star players have excellent grade point averages. Not only that but just read what almost all of them are looking for in a school. One that they can achieve the best academic education from. Athletically speaking, there's a reason a school like Stanford does as well as it does. The days of the stereotypical 'Dumb Jock' are getting shorter, and I think it behooves schools like UGA to lead in that trend.

Also, several years back Sports Illustrated did an article about how UGA is one of the strictest schools in the country regarding discipline. Which severely handicaps the program, especially in the lenient SEC. I don't think this should change. Maybe other than first pot offense being "handled internally," and not require a one-game suspension. If you're caught twice you deserve whatever you get, because you're a moron.
