Brandon, I agree 100% with what Mike said on the podcast...the Dawgs have the most talented team (offense explosive potential, run defense) and the easiest path to at least the SEC Championship game than we've had in years. We will have to royally screw up to not take the SEC East Title. Seriously. I see us beating Clemson and meeting Bama in the SEC Championship. That's where the rubber will meet the road.
We've got a good enough crop of DB/CB talent coming in to add to the mix and make the secondary good enough. Heck, with all our "star" secondary players this season we still got burned pretty badly by Bama and Florida. That's where the player development will come in and Kirby knows defense better than anyone. And yes, we do need an effective pass rush and an OL capable of protecting the QB. I also think Daniels needs to find some more mobility. He just doesn't seem to have any wheels, but it may have had more to do with protecting his injured knee than anything else.
Concerning Bama, Mac Jones was phenomenal. Bryce Young's potential is probably above Daniels, and his running ability is a strength that JT just doesn't have unfortunately. Bama's defense should be very good with all their returning starters.
Nice story on Bama's Bryce Young....short kid (sub 6') but sounds like he more than makes up for it...same QB development coach as Daniels in CA...it will be interesting to compare how both their skills & development progress over the next year.

Daniels isn't going to be much of a run threat, nor do I think he needs to be. He needs to have the right kind of mobility for his style - the ability to move around inside the pocket - and I do think he's got that. There were moments this past season when he looked downright nimble back there, and I do think that, as you alluded to, it will improve as his knee does. I think the bigger area for improvement is finding a way to get rid of the ball more consistently when he starts having to dance around, whether that's keeping his eyes downfield and finding someone who's open or just throwing it away. Again, I think that as he becomes less focused on protecting a healing knee, it may help in keeping his focus on making some kind of play out of a scramble.
i firmly believe that Kirby and staff will mine the transfer portal for one or two pieces in the DB/S room this coming year. I have been consistently under-impressed with the developement of this last crop. They were serviceable, but not up to the task in big time moments.
However, I think the WR room is stacked and will provide much needed high intensity practice for Spring and Summer which should get them up to speed for the season. I absolutely love the first test out of the gate against Clemson.
