I don't like it. Giving the top 4 teams byes is just way too big an advantage. They told us for years that 4 teams were enough. That it SHOULD be difficult to make the playoffs. That's why 8 is the best number. It should be tough to make the field. No one outside of the top 8 has any chance to win it anyway.

This is turning into basketball bracketing. I agree with a limit of 8 teams..no byes. As the original commission said...the 12 teams is to encourage more inclusion and expand the aura football generates deeper into the new year. Also, the revenue generated. You will almost surely have a few 7-3 teams with no chance. The winner will be a top four anyway...likely...possibly top 5.

What's wrong conceptually with this statement:

"The board of managers is made up of university presidents representing all 10 FBS conferences and Notre Dame."

Just join the ACC fully and be done with it Notre Dame.

Anyway, that's exciting to hear it's moving forward.

4 Teams was NEVER enough, it was just the most they were willing to give us. There are always going to be at least one team every year that goes undefeated playing High School level teams and thinks they should be (or have the shot to be) NCs. This will be their shot and it'll cost them an extra game to do it.

This means that instead of being #5 and winding up playing a #15 team in some Bowl that nobody cares about and has players opt-out of, there is a REAL next step. This benefits are team like Georgia A LOT given our history of missing the playoffs and instead having a Notre Dame in there that has ZERO shot of winning the NC.

To me, I think the goal is to make the conference championship games (especially the 4th, 5th and 6th best conferences) matter and give those oddball Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina and UCF teams a shot, plus those like Wisconsin and Oregon that get close but rarely make it into the Top 4.

You gotta admit, it's getting tiresome having Bama, Clemson, Ohio State and an over-ranked Notre Dame every year as the only ones that play.
