And so far that hasn’t happened. So I think we are in good shape.
TAMU spent around $30M on 27 recruits. Saban estimated Young made a million. I guess you are waiting on the tax returns before you believe anyone is getting paid this much. Anyone want to bet Williams just made a whole lot more than $1M to go to USC?
Saban said Young made “close to seven figures” and everyone knew at the time it was a recruiting ploy. It worked. And I would say Bryce earned his money.
aTm and the $30M sounds like wild estimates with nothing concrete. I can assure you if they don’t see results many in that class will jump ship and that type of cash will dry up. People who make this kind of money won’t throw good money after bad.
Williams probably made some money, but I’m betting he earned it too. And with the way ESPN plans on slurping bud popsicle next fall and he’s in LA? Money well spent. Added bonus…making a pac12 team worth watching which raises the profile for college football nationally again.
How much do you think will be thrown at Arch? My guess is several million.
Except he and his family won’t need it. And if he’s as good as his uncles or his granddad he will also earn every penny.
For the record, that is not happening, I would even say 10% of that number WAS a stretch. But there were and maybe are exceptions!
TaMU spent $30 million on what exactly? Who can verify that number and on what was that spent? I certainly do not know what that is, pretty sure not many do or even if it is a real number, IT is a real big number, but who is getting fired if it is BS!
I am hoping that the main point of all this is, the players are being managed by the University, Conference and NCAA, the University is being managed by the Conference and the NCAA, AND that ESPN is still making a fortune broadcasting all of it.
I will admit and you can go back a year, when this first came up, my fear was that the NCAA would lose a lot of revenue. Revenue that would be taken from them to pay the athletes AND they would lose control of the day-to-day, Pure Fear and many of you said at the time, that there wasn't an answer to that question. But now that the Universities and Conferences are still relying on them to facilitate all of the athletics, my fear has completely subsided. It was that important!
Now I just want the University of Georgia to be able to adapt to the changing landscape and maintain their dominance. Not easy to do, but so far, they have been flawless!
If we stay away from referring to the exceptions, this is a good thing for all parties included! Win-Win-Win!
That is a terrible idea! They are already providing a lot for all scholarship athletes and don't concentrate on just football.
There are so many sports that are supported by football and if you try to "Make it fair for everyone", and disperse all NIL money to all athletes, that would just open up Pandora's box! It would open the door for all of the "Legitimate NIL" money, to not be so legitimate!
People also don't have a problem with coaches staying on the road recruiting and being away from family! In other words they pay their dues to eventually make 5-10 million a year!
And the players work from 6am to 10pm so it’s not like they’re on easy street.
But, but, but won't you think of the amateurism? How can I enjoy football knowing the players made money?
They're paying their dues too!
So they too can get paid. This settles it.
NIL saves retail! America!
I have no clue as to what you are trying to say. 🤣
Saban is not a fan of NIL. He agrees that what it is is not what it was supposed to be.
