It’s hard to believe, but it’s been half a century since the terrific Dawgs season that was a highlight of my sophomore year at UGA.

Thanks Bill for the great review of the 1971 season. I graduated in 1970 and missed every game (due to military service) except the last one against the “bugs”….which may be in my “top 10” most exciting UGA games of all time. Go Dawgs

It was a great season, Bill, and almost monumental. I remember the AU game having a great buildup, with UGA being called a National Title Contender all week by the Jax newspapers. We had Auburn shut down several times, only to see Sulivan make a play. AU accomplished the same feat again in '83, with another Heisman winner ruining (barely) our day. But my dad saw all of those games, then took me 40 miles to Jax to see Dooley vs Dooley, and see Vince and his Bulldogs finish at 11-1.

My wife and I was at the Tech game in 71 when the Dawgs fought back for a very exciting win. After the win as we were celebrating some sore losers from Tech doused us with some liquid spirits. Nether the less, even soaked by the alcohol you couldn't dampen a fantastic win. The Auburn loss was one that might have kept Dooley from winning his first National Title.
