Nice shots from Beck just there. Good to see him moving with some confidence, and (I reckon) the coaches giving him a little freedom to move it through the air. Early series were "just use this to get your head in the game." Seems more like "all right go play" now.

How did Washington’s “growth” work out against FCS Montana last week? We are not that far removed from our Dawgs coming off the field like they had just won a Natty in a last minute win against Georgia Southern. We have had five years of growth with Kirby. Now we have quality players and quality depth in all groups to compete for national championships. That’s what every game is about this year! (At least, in my opinion.)

@MontanaDawg you are once again drawing too many conclusions from very little to no knowledge about the current quarterback situation.

If you actually believe that Kirby does not see a real future for Beck, then the rest of the year the focus better be on Vandagriff and hope some big time quarterback shows up in the transfer portal. It also adds to position that this is a now or never year for Kirby.

You consider Kirby handles the quarterback room different than he does the media which is where almost all of the information we have about the team comes from.

If I remember correctly at one point this week many fans wanted to jump out to a big lead early so Beck would get an opportunity.

Now the goalposts have moved, it is now Beck starting and developing.

It will be interesting seeing the participation chart for the game. I would guess almost every healthy scholarship player will get into the game, and other than a bad snap there has not been a huge drop off, especially in effort.

    Welp...

    So much for that shutout...

Pretty meh follow-up from Beck on that one. I'm still on the fence here.

You're on point for most of this.

    But.

    Come on.

It's not a Now or Never year for Kirby.

I'm not going to subscribe to this that Bennett stuff we did that last year

I draw conclusions from what Kirby says and doesn't say. He didn't have to name a #2 QB, but he did. He could have left that question unanswered or simply said we're still not sure. I can't imagine he told Carson, "hey, I'm going to name you the #2, but you might not start against possibly the easiest team on our schedule. Ok? We'll give that start to Stetson, because we dont think you can get it done." Uh, I don't think so.

It will be interesting to see who starts next week against SC if JT is still hobbled. If it's Stetson then I'll rest my case about Kirby's belief in Beck - no matter what he says.

@MontanaDawg let me make sure I understand what you are saying. If JT cannot go, you would start Beck over Bennett. Is that correct? Your reasoning would be?

    @stone...

No, that's not what I said. If JT can't go against SC and Kirby starts Stetson, then my belief is that Smart doesn't believe Beck can move the ball well enough to win. And if that's true, why even name a #2 QB? Sure, Stetson obviously has more experience and yes, he can have a "calming effect" on the offense (as another article stated). Whatever.

I honestly don't care who starts. I want to win just like everyone else. I simply question the way the QB shuffle was handled and how it might affect Beck, his confidence, his mental game, etc. going forward since he was named #2. I mean Stetson and JT are GONE after this year. 2022 is either Beck or Vandagriff. The more game reps those guys get the better. Growth comes from experience. In my eyes, a game like UAB was the perfect opponent to start Beck and get reps. If he struggled after a few series then put it Stetson.

@MontanaDawg hopefully Kirby starts the players he believes will win the game.

Yes Kirby could have done a better job in interacting with the media who in turn interact with the fans. Of course this really is not something new.

It was very good that Bennett lead the team offensively allowing them to realize their potential. This had to give the entire team a lot of confidence as they start SEC play.

As for Beck he will grow from this experience and hopefully continue to develop his skills. If he cannot fight through this then you might be correct in that he needs to hit the transfer portal. I should, however, say I believe you to be wrong.

I appreciate you searching long and hard to make your point but Washing has never been and will never be GA and recruit to our level. Nor will their HC come out and say 1 guy is the #2 and 3 days later go back on his word. Bennett could have throw for 700 yds for all I care today. I know his ceiling. His ceiling is not close to championship level. Grow your team. Bottom line Kirby got scared and played it safe. You will now never know what Beck was capable of…1st series “your not good enough” so let’s hand off 3x in a row. Every other time you have a zero vote of confidence and/or lack of starting line up. I revert if Beck was that bad he couldn’t start that is 100% coaching.
