I disagree with your comparison of Stetson Bennett to Cocker as one was a 5 star QBs sitting on the bench behind a heisman trophy winner that chose to transfer to Alabama but the two are not the same. Yes Cocker didn’t go to the NFL but he was better than Bennett. You said Bennett is better than most QBs starting right now which I kinda agree with but how many of those team are competing for a NC (top 4)? I’ll wait … none. As far as Kirby wanting to win a NC.. when is he not? If JT goes down I’m sure Bennett will be ready but when your starting QB March down the field the first two drives with ease, you don’t pull him to give the backup reps. So disagree with you there. Also Stafford is a college football HoF and will be in the NFL HoF and he never had a team like this around him in either league.

You are short sighted. If JT goes down Stetson can’t win the SEC or NT games. What more do you need to see, he’s come up short against Bama & FL.

Now in the last two game we have had huge leads. This is the perfect time to let Carson and Brock get live game reps. CKS has said many times that he knows what he has in Stetson.

I’m not opposed to getting Stetson a series here and there. Look I’m sure that we will blowout Vandy by the 3rd quarter and the “in game”/“live” reps would be invaluable experience for Carson and Brock. That’s QB development. Otherwise come next year we are fielding QBs with little or no real “in game” experience.

We may be witnessing an early decision by Kirby and Monken on the QB hierarchy that says Beck is being passed by Brock Vandegriff already, in practice. Just a theory.

Stetson Bennentt led UGA to a halftime lead over Bama. Saban’s adjustments never got matched by Kirby, and Bama rolled, to 15-0, and the CFP Championship. Bennentt led us to a 14-0 lead in Jax before going out with a sprained shoulder. UGA lost both of those games from Kirby’s lack of adjustments on both sides of the ball.

Stetson will do just fine if called upon. I, for one hope JT stays healthy, and brings home the one trophy that’s been missing for too long.

Understanding the need to focus on What’s Important Now isn’t being short-sighted. I think Dawggy summed up the rest of what I would say nicely enough just below.

I like how JT and the offense is coming together. He will only get better as he builds chemistry with the receivers and the rest of the offense.

It was obvious that CKS disrupted the flow of the offense when he abruptly put Stetson in. The game commentators were right in questioning that decision by CKS. It turned out to be a bad move as Stetson didn’t play well.

What about the development of our young, highly rated QBs? Since we were blowing out SC in the 3rd quarter, why won’t CKS use that time to get Carson and Brock some much need in-game reps? To me, that’s QB development. I’ve heard Sabin and countless other coaches talk about how valuable that in-game experience is in developing young QBs. I’m only talking about using them to run the offense in blowout situation like last night.

Aside from that, there are whole other sets of position groups that need gametime development. To do that, they need someone that can actually call the shots and get them the ball. Just a week ago, Bennett reminded everyone that he can very much be that person. Wanting someone behind center who can better ensure that our playmakers continue their playmaking abilities early in the season (and who may need to step in if #1 goes down) is hardly a bonehead move...

The problem is clearly stated by Smart. He bases the QB position like he does other positions and that's how they practice.

But you can't do that. This isn't like many of the positions where you can (and should) swap out players continually in the game. The QB position is psychological and is a critical leadership position. There's a reason why few successful teams have had 2 starting QBs. Swapping in Bennett because a Lose, Lose, Lose.

    • Bennett lost because he only got the opportunity to make 3 throws and with one being an INT, I can guarantee you that he felt like he was "thrown under the bus"
    • Daniels clearly lost his rhythm after the swap. If that had been against a tougher opponent that absolutely could've been the difference in the game
    • Beck lost. At this point, you have to assume that he's going to leave. Why would he stay given the fact that clearly he's the 3rd string player now

You don't make a week-by-week decision on QB. You have them battle during the offseason and then commit to one and give them a shot until they struggle and then you give the next player a solid chance to play.

Smart just needs to admit that it was a mistake and that he won't do it again... but he won't admit that and it will cost us.
