I've kind of depleted my cache of arguments over this next tilt with KY. I do note that nearly every DawgNation writer configures our opponent as being a physical football team... it is getting a tad jaded. Of course every team is physical....some perhaps more than others. Intensity is part of the game. Bashing into your opponent across the line is physical. What is physical to UGA is probably the same with opposing teams. Now out thinking or maneuvering your opponent that is something different. Strategy. Tactics. These can win or lose a game. Physicality is good too as it must last all 4 quarters,...but coaching decisions can win or lose tight games.
Cook certainly looked in-bounds when he made the catch for the 1st down right before the field goal. As you say, a coaching decision can make the difference in a tight game. Thank goodness it didn't come down to that in our game.
Kentucky is going to be more physical...their Defense looks legit, but going up against our improving OL and offense I'm not sure about.
Great point.
I think UGA is lucky this game is at home and we aren’t traveling again. I also think we will perform well in response to another rocking crowd. I hope we stay with Stetson for one more week and even some of the younger receivers. Give these vets time to get healthy and rely on our defense. I know it’s not what everyone wants to hear/see but it’s likely best for the team heading into a physical Florida game followed by back stretch of the season.
Speaking of Julian Rochester, is he still hurt? He's not on the list of injured players, but I don't recall seeing him play any this season.
Regarding writing about opposing teams being physical, pretty much every team in the SEC is physical.
In some ways, significant ways, Kentucky mirrors the Dawgs.
They seem to favor a very physical game. Obviously that means they try to beat you to death and break your will. Some teams aren't capable of that, but Kentucky tends not to be one of those teams. Are they as physical as the Dawgs? I certainly hope not.
It's our team's job to convince them and their fans that they are our little brother. We might like 'em and admire 'em, but it doesn't mean we won't beat them up when need be.
Much depends on our execution. Much depends on our offensive line. Kirby says our defense is not in great shape. Is he talking about our S&C? I don't think so. I believe he means we must improve on the fundamentals and execute better especially against the Wildcats and their excellent offensive line. (In case you missed it, watch them against Florida and LSU.)
On thing I see is how quickly their quarterback gets rid of the ball. The Kentucky receivers look open and they catch the ball. We're unlikely to be gifted unearned incompletions.
Don't forget these guys beat Florida. Who have we played?
The point spread is not to be trusted. It's all about sweetening the deal in order to get more money from Kentucky fans. Vegas only cares about equal money being bet on both sides. We might beat the spread of course, or not. I only care about beating Kentucky, and it's not going to be easy.
Go, Dawgs!
A lot of the fans on Dawg Nation just love to repeat what another fan has posted as a comment.
