Georgia football-Kentucky games perfectly illustrate improvement of Stetson Bennett
Stetson Bennett continued to shine for Georgia at the quarterback position.

Go Dawgs!
I think you meant “detractors.”
As far as not hopping on the Bennett mail truck, I think B.A. said it best on the podcast. Stetson is as good of a backup quarterback as you good possibly want, but Daniels is just a phenom when he’s playing at his peak. However, if he’s “not playing like JT Daniels, there’s no reason to start JT Daniels” over the Mailman. If he’s 99%, keep playing Bennett. The instant JT’s back to 100%, he should go back in because his top performance is that good. It’s not a slight to Stetson, it’s a compliment to Daniels.
Stetson Bennett IV, aka The Mailman, continues to be the most underrated QB in college football. For me, his body of work and his continuous improvement (not forcing the ball, making adjustments to his formerly low point of release, etc.) make him the clear choice to get the start against Florida. Yes, he was a walk on, and yes, he is a normal sized guy, but he has heart, he throws the long ball well, he is a threat to run and makes game changing plays with his legs, and the team seems to play better overall when he is in the game (leadership). No disrespect to JT Daniels, but he really hasn’t proven himself against a strong opponent (and he gave a lack luster performance against a deeply flawed Clemson team).
In other news, it was disappointing to see our defense give up two touchdowns for the first time this season—that tells you just how good this defense has been! 🤣
GO DAWGS! This could be the year. 😎
Nice problem to have that we have a 2nd QB (if you will) who plays nearly as good as our starter does when he is completely healthy.
I believe it was Milton who saved Bennett, made certainly the play of the game & one of the best heads up play in years for the Dawgs when he covers Bennett's fumble 10 yards down field. If KY covers that ball, it's a big momentum swing & a different game. That type of heads-up play is a huge difference in this year's team vs the past several years. Play til the final whistle.
The forward momentum of the ball clearly showed that there was forward momentum of Bennett’s arm. This was not a fumble. It was an incomplete pass.
Still, great heads up play by Milton and a lucky way to gain some crucial yards. 🤣
Milton didn’t save Bennett, he saved the Dawg offense and more directly, the Dawg OL. Bennett was attempting to pass when his protection broke down and his arm was hit.
Kirby is handling the QB situation beautifully! There’s no need to rush JT back. We need both of our starters to be 100% for the stretch run. Should either get injured, our season’s goal remains intact. Should JT aggravate the lat and Stets should go down, then our season would be in peril having to depend on Beck to run the offense. Losing multiple TOs are the only way this D will give up enough points for this team to lose.
While THREE KY players watched it roll around with their hands on their helmets.
Stets is doing fine. His long balls to Bowers were a thing of beauty. That one medium throw to Milton was short or would have been more yardage. Still, a completion. WR A. Mitchell reeled in a few as did the other tight ends. Bennett said he was "having a bit more fun in the second half" hitting Bowers for two TDs. Bowers indeed is explosive. Comparing Stets and JT is unwarranted. One is 100% and leading UGA to win after win against ranked teams. The other is healing and will likely get a chance to show his obvious skills again at some point. We need two good and healthy QBs. Preferences aside, this is the way it is. UGA is in a good place. They are playing elite football. Let's enjoy it.
Stetson reminds me of Drew Brees. Not the biggest guy at the position and maybe not the best arm or set of legs. He just gets the job done and you will never see him not being a team player. JT Daniels or Stetson? Kind of like having Larry Bird and Michael Jordan on the same team and being told you can only play one of them at the time. Bird went about his play made the players around him better, Jordan was sensational every time he got his hands on the ball. Both of them were great players that were generational talents. Stetson is greatly unappreciated right now. As the years go by he will be remembered as one of the all time Dawg greats. Like a fine wine, gets better with aging. 😁
Good article, Connor. For the first half of the season at least, Stetson is the MVP. And for the 2nd game in a row, he had 0 forced throws. It looked like to me that about half of his incompletions were good throw-aways.
