NATIONAL PIE DAY
Who doesn't love a good pie ? What's your favorite pie (s) ?
NATIONAL PIE DAY
Each year on December 1st, dessert lovers across the United States enjoy a slice of their favorite on National Pie Day. Pie is so delicious we celebrate it twice a year. The more popular date is January 23rd.
While it might be the lesser of the two celebrated PIE days (don’t forget National Pi Day on March 14th), it happens to fall smack dab in the middle of a major pie-making season.
Take away ice cream as a dessert choice, and most people choose either cake people or pie people. Or, to put it another way, most people have cake or pie with their ice cream! The day combines our bumper fruit crops with a booming holiday season full of baked goods, cool weather, and rosy-cheeked children. It’s definitely time to tie on those apron strings and get baking.
Of course, we make more than fruit pies! Savory pot pies provide comfort on a cold winter’s day and the satisfaction a family cook needs when caring for a family.
Bake up your favorite pie or enjoy some leftover slices from the holidays. Visit the National Day Calendar® Recipe pages to discover some delicious pie-making. We also offer some others, too. When it comes to pie, or any food really, it is best enjoyed with others. Invite someone over for your best pie and coffee. Maybe there’s a friend you haven’t seen for a while. Pie starts conversations, and they’re a great way to #CelebrateEveryDay too!
Used in a sentence: If every day were National Pie Day, I would not complain.

Pecan pie for me! Warm with a little melted butter! Mmm Mmm!
I just finished the last of my Thanksgiving mince meat pie.
Nothing better! My wife hand cuts up her pecans so they are a uniform size. This lets them all cook nice and crunchy. They turn a golden brown on top and are a nice gooey texture in the middle. I could eat a whole one with a glass of cold milk. She does one called a Kentucky derby pie. It has chocolate chips and pecans inside. It is a deep dish pie that cooks a nice flaky top and is a thick, caramel texture inside. She also does the pecan pies in a smaller version. Kind of like a single serving. They are about three inches across. Just right for a snack. Her sweet potatoes pies are great too.
Man o’ man, sounds delicious!
Have you ever heard of the derby pie? A lot of restaurants serve them. They add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to it. I like to put it in the microwave for a few seconds to heat the chocolate chips up some so they are melted a little bit. She also makes it with peanut butter and caramel flavored chips in it instead of the chocolate. 😋
@huckleberry, derby pie is awesome. Chocolate and pecans can't be beat unless you have a cherry pie. Then it's debatable. Pecan pie is very close after those two.
no, i haven't but it sounds wonderful!
I make black walnut pie with dark Karo that can make you want a shot of insulin.
Maybe even NEED a shot of insulin. Sounds great.
I love cherry pies too. Especially hot, right out of the oven. A nice flaky crust, add a scoop of ice cream to it. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted and not gain a pound. Now, I have to watch out. I still have to eat sweets though. Just cut down on the amount of them. My sugar is still normal but I just don't burn off the calories like I once did. The perils of getting older.
That sounds awesome! Never had black walnut pie. My wife found some black walnuts at a Wal-Mart a few months ago. She made a black walnut cake that was good. I remember breaking the walnuts apart with a couple of bricks when I was a kid. A lot of work and skinned knuckles but worth it. It is hard to find the trees now. There were two on some property nearby but the owners pushed them off.
If i am having pie its going to be a Little Italy pizza pie
When I lived in Greenville, SC I had 27 acres in Cleveland, SC that had 2 large Black Walnut trees. One day I went to check the property to find that someone had stolen the trees - they were cut down to the ground! That lumber would have been worth thousands, but my free source of black walnuts was gone forever.
black walnut rustlers ? That s.ucked.
Sad that people only think about their own ends instead of looking at the long time that it would take to replace those trees. The bad side of humanity. The two that I knew of were just pushed up and burned. Making way for human growth. One of them was beside an old partially log home was very old. Probs of planted by the ones that built the house. More than likely early settlers of the area. It had to be at least 150 years old. It was built with the kitchen area separate from the rest of the house with a hallway connecting it. People built them that way because of the old wood stoves that were used being dangerous and the heat that was generated in the summertime. It kept the rest of the house cooler.
