Dan Lanning departure another test for Kirby Smart, Georgia football
Kirby Smart will have another big task in replacing defensive coordinator Dan Lanning.

It strikes me that Lanning staying through the CFP is more theater than anything else. He may be physically in Athens in between long flights to Oregon, but his focus is rightfully in Eugene.
Connor, Connor, SMH. It pretty much is an annual event already. Every 2 years max? Isn't it? Yes. It is. It's been par for the course, pretty steady.
Saban has shown that if you're a strong HC, then the assistants can come and go as they please and your program only grows stronger.
No reason to be concerned from the defensive side of the ball - maybe we need to recruit more safeties and such, but no doubt there. What we need is a dedicated QB coach and have Smart allow Monken to work with that coach and choose appropriately in terms of QB and offensive packages.
Lanning staying is for show. Muschamp and Schumann have already been assigned his spot. I was surprised he stayed on. His heart will definitely not be with UGA. The recruits all know he has moved on. Why he is here is known only to Kirby and Lanning.. The players know his heart is now yellow and green....not red and black. We wish him well at Oregon...until next September...then all things change.
