It looks like Crean has the team playing consistent this year. I’ll give him credit for that. I’m not sure it’s the right kind of consistency.
I’m assuming he’s gone in a couple of months.

Go get Jonas Hayes and don't look back
Crean Fired in 3, 2, 1……… he’s got to go.
Turns out, Kirby goes everywhere.
It is insane that we can not recruit the state of Georgia and keep some of the big time players home each year. We must get someone that can recruit first and coach a close second. I would be fine with Jonas. I think he’d do a great job. There’s no reason for us to be the doormats of the Sec in basketball.
If Auburn can b relevant nationally in Mens Basketball there's absolutely no reason in the world why Georgia shouldn't be. Admittedly I don't follow Georgia Basketball like I did throughout my teens, 20s, and into my early 30s because frankly they haven't given me much reason too.
Crean's getting the boot when his buyout drops.
People were trying to spin it, but everyone transferring was a gigantic warning shot and I lost interest with this season several months ago due to it.
The year is pretty much a wash and it's going to take at least another year, if not two to fix the damage after this year.
I have been UGA basketball since I was an undergrad and attended games at Woodruff Hall. It has historically been a struggle. I agree with a previous poster that alluded to all the BB talent in Georgia. I am not astute enough to have a solution. I do have a few thoughts about what might be an issue and they are as follows:
Stegeman Coliseum was completed in 1965 as a multi purpose building. Could that be an issue?
Has the AAU situation made the recruiting process totally corrupt and UGA does not desire to play in that dirty pool?
As an alum I must admit basketball is not at the top my UGA interest list. I am more concerned more with football and baseball. I think that is true with many other alumni. In today's world recruits can sense this.
Just a couple of thoughts.
yep, if auburn can get them we should be able to also. Makes me sick to see all the talent leave and especially go to the barn. We should be able to get at least two each year from our state !
Wholeheartedly agree!!!! No excuses
One reason, I think, is that there is not a real history or tradition of winning or championship basketball at UGA (other than women's basketball). Prior to Coach Hugh Durham coming in 1978, Georgia had never even been to a post season tournament, much less won a game in one. Coach Durham brought Dominic Wilkins in and, starting with 'Nic , we started winning games culminating with the Terry Fair final four appearance in '83 or '84 (can't remember).
Georgia has made a few NCAA appearances since and won a few SEC tournaments (never a regular season championship) -remember the "twister tournament"?- but nothing on a consistent basis.
My point is that it is hard to sell "tradition" at UGA to young recruits when there has been none.
A former player like Jonas Hayes would be a great idea as I think he could give a "having played at UGA" perspective to a young recruit and that they could be a part of making UGA great!
Go Dawgs!
That is too funny!!! I like that guy!
Great win, Dawgs!
Yeah I agree with that. I remember when Richt got here he would say we’ve got to “blow the top off this program” and reach new heights. We need someone that can blow the top off. It won’t be a quick fix but in basketball it can happen quicker than others. You get 2-3 top players a year in Georgia and year 2 you will be competing. But yeah it’s hard to compete with other schools winning tradition. It will take someone that is elite at recruiting
If I am not mistaken, one of the Alec Kessler teams did win a regular season SEC championship in basketball. I had season tickets for 35 years and there were a few really exciting teams over that period. I no longer live in the state but have continued to follow the Dawgs on TV--that is until everyone portaled last year at which point I threw up my hands and vowed no more!
