MLB HOF voters are absolute morons
Why is Andruw Jones not in the HOF? 10 gold gloves and 434 HR. Better WAR than David Ortiz too. Also clean during the steroid era they hate. I just don't understand
Comments
Will never get this one as well. Maybe going to Japan has something to do with it.
A. Jones was the best centerfield of his era, bar none! Consumate team player! Effortlessly played the ball in Center with a great arm and hit with power!
I don't think Ortiz should be in the HoF. He was atrocious in the field and was just a DH. Sorry, but you have to be able to play in the field somewhat for me to consider you a baseball player. To me, that's like adding long-drive champions to the golf hall of fame. Just doesn't make sense. Andruw is getting hurt by his hitting. Wasn't a terrible hitter, solid HRs, but wasn't elite overall. But if you're going to allow Ortiz in, then Andruw should definitely be in for his defense alone (if you can get in on offense alone like Ortiz). Arguably the best defensive centerfielder ever.
I guess they are going to DH in both leagues? 😑 Or was that averted?
It has to be because his last few years were so bad, which shouldn't really matter. You only have to play for 10 years to be considered to be in the HOF, so based on that logic they should just be able to look at his best 10 year arch and see that he is deserving. If he would have retired after his 12th season like Sandy Koufax did, he would be in.
They keep saying that it's likely the NL goes to DH, but it hasn't been officially approved. You'd think if they're going to do it for this season they'd hurry up, so NL teams can look for/sign DH players. Either way, I still don't think DHs should get into the hall of fame.
Well… IMHO… DH is bull$h!t. 🤣
arguably best defender ever
Yeah, I get both sides of the argument. I used to be against the DH, but current pitchers (outside of a couple) have completely given up on even learning how to bunt anymore. If pitchers aren't even going to practice this craft, then might as well go DH. Either way, glad it will soon be the same in both leagues.
he had one of the best 10 year stretches of all time. 10 consecutive golden gloves and good to great hitting. 3rd best WAR during that stretch as well. Best defensive war by a mile at 24 with 2nd being 15
I agree. Baseball Writers must not know how to use Baseball-Reference.com. I love looking at advanced statistics and comparing players. The same clowns voted Kirby Puckett in on the first ballot (played 12 seasons), and Andruw's advanced statistics from his first 12 seasons blow Kirby out of the water. In fact Dale Murphy's best 12 year arch (1979-1990) is very comparable to Kirby Puckett's career as well and deserves a deeper look. Sure Kirby had the higher batting average, but Murphy took a lot more walks and hit a lot more homeruns and also had the better OPS, OPS+. Both have very similar Runs, RBIs, stolen bases, and defensive numbers. HOF voting has become a popularity contest instead of evaluating actual gameplay.
I think it always has been because of who's voting. Wrong people IMO
Agree that it should be the same in both leagues.
And being able to use the DH did help us against the Astros! Soler power!
Has to be his seasons after he left ATL. He just wasn't the same. Should have no effect but these writers are idiots
oh yeah and the 10 gold gloves along with 400+ HRs has only been done by 4 players. 3 are in the HOF with Andruw being the only one not in there
Kenny Lofton is another one of my favorite players that just got completely overlooked and didn't even get enough votes to stay on the ballot a 2nd year. Dang shame. Here's to hoping the Veteran's Committee will do a better job at evaluating him.
