Bulldog Bites: Changes threaten UGA rivalries, traditions
Tradition matters in college football. At least, that has been the case until recently.

That picture looks like a Heisman moment.
If needed or desired—UGA/AU could copy Wake Forest/UNC and schedule non conference games to keep the rivalry going.
Great article Bill as always. I love having a coach like Kirby that grew up in Georgia, played for Georgia and has a real understanding of tradition. He is not going to let Georgia traditions go away without a fight. When he arrived, he was very hestitate about even playing in the black uniforms, so I know he will go slow and easy regarding the all-whites. I trust he will lead the Georgia program in the right way, because he loves it so.
Georgia’s red helmet with the power G is the absolute best helmet in all of football. I hope there is a ZERO chance of ever seeing the white helmet in a game. If the 3-6 format is adopted, I’d rather see SC than tenn too. Once every 4 years of hearing that terrible fight song would be a lot better. Go Dawgs!!
Great article, Bill. I'll cheer for the Dawgs in whatever uniform they're in so, I really don't understand all the animus about the team possibly playing in all-white uniforms. They are not hideous and as I alluded to earlier, it's STILL the Dawgs, no matter what. Many of the same people who would lament about all-white uniforms because they're not "traditional," would readily move the Georgia-Florida game out of Jacksonville, which is also a tradition. Again, it's fine if they NEVER wear all-white uniforms, but they do look nice and I just don't get the hate for anything that's "different." Go Dawgs!
Thanks Bill for another entertaining article. If we go to the 1-7 schedule with only a single permanent opponent we would definitely be stuck with the Gators and not Auburn, but not for the reason most folks have mentioned. Auburn would not be available for us because they would have to play Bama each year so it’s a mute point to debate us selecting Florida over Auburn because Auburn won’t be an option. Hopefully we will go to the 3-6 option so we can keep both rivals. Go Dawgs!!!
This: "Still, for traditionalists, keeping those so-called secondary matchups, like Georgia-Auburn and Alabama-Tennessee, is more important than whether the likes of Kentucky, Vanderbilt or Arkansas go to a bowl. Let’s face it, tradition is one of the few things keeping the Divison 1 college game from becoming just a group of NFL development leagues."
Thank you for being the one voice that considers the long view.
I like this article. And I hate this article.
I'm glad, very glad, to hear about the renovations of the South side of Sanford Stadium. The men's bathroom at the far end was closed at the end of the game Saturday due to an issue with the pipes. And the concourse is ALWAYS packed after games. Both are in desperate need of renovation and expansion!
Meanwhile, our scheduled games with Oklahoma have just been dumped due to their merger into the SEC and the game has been replaced at home by Ball State. Awful!
