Picking Ohio State over Georgia is fair. Yes, Georgia has more overall talent. It is also fair to assert that Georgia has the more accomplished coaching staff (Smart, Monken, Muschamp). But Ohio State is an offensive team and Georgia is a defensive team. Ohio State's only important losses on offense were the WRs Olave and Wilson and the LT Nicholas Petit-Frere. UGA meanwhile is a defensive team and they lost their starting DL (all 1st round picks), 3 of their best 4 LBs (including a 1st round pick and the Butkus winner) and their 2 best DBs. While UGA's offense will be better, Ohio State's defense similarly will be.

Rather than saying UGA is disrespected, I think that UGA being ranked #3 despite losing 15 draft picks (5 in the 1st round) and their defensive coordinator says the opposite: Georgia is VERY respected.

Let's venture out onto that proverbial limb here....UGA #1...Bama #2...OSU #3. From what I have heard and seen this preseason, UGA is loaded with developed talent, especially on offense, so I expect much more than AP's educated guess. The defense is more than adequate enough to form that formidable UGA tour de force of '21...but my money is on the Monken offense of putting up some big numbers. The synergy is there big time. The two receiving corps are second to non in college football...IMO. An experienced Stetson Bennett knows this team and will excel. RBs Kenny Mac and Kendal Milton should put on a show for us. I expect UGA to drub Oregon, thoroughly. UGA has the power and depth like few other teams. Speculate all you want...this is how I see it.

Remind me what the first pre-season poll showed last year??

All speculation, but always interesting to see how the pre-season poll ends up compared to the final season poll. Usually they aren't that close overall. We'll know more about the Dawgs true potential after Oregon.

AP giving no respect to any of our SEC East opponents other than Kentucky. I think TN will get into the poll at some point unless Heupel lays an egg. He's got a talented roster, and a Top 10 QB. They've just got to put it all together. I think that will be our toughest regular season SEC game.

I would remove Miami until they prove they belong that high. Tennessee should be inserted around 20. Dawgs deserve to be 2 or 3

Every year they plug Ocryo St. and Knots on the Dame at or near the top ( under Bama of course) then Hope & Pray they can live up to it !! And they Really, Really Hope & Pray that one of those two will win the National Title. And when the fat lady sings her heart out they walk away disappointed……….again. Yes it took UGA all those many, many years to get there and seal the deal. But they have under Kirby and he has UGA on a upward trend. To the mud lizard troll that keeps posting on here. I love how you Tried and utterly failed to delegitimize the Dawgs winning the National Title on another post. No they Won it fair and square, and taking in all the numerous, numerous injuries they had it was a Remarkable win at that. Much to your dismay I’m sure. And your on here touting ( in your case drooling over) Billy Napier and his recruiting success of late. Well pretty much Any Time you have a New HeadCoach surrounded with New staff and touting New facilities etc. etc. Yes the recruits Will come initially. But after about the first Two years in the SEC the “New” sales pitch wears off and you have to put up WINS, and Allot of them at that or recruits will see through the veneer and go else where. Having done pretty well of late in recruiting Yes Napier should have a measure of success on the field. But fans Very Quickly forget what you did for them yesterday and want to See what your doing for them Today. In a Very short period of time Napier is going to be expected then soon after Demanded to have wins verses UGA and Bama or mud lizard fans are gonna get very anxious then after a little longer wait that anxious will turn to anger. In the past the mud lizards have used TN as a whipping boy but that might be Much more difficult now let alone beating UGA & Bama. South Carolina just like TN could become more challenging for Both UGA and UF. Teams like Ark. Miss St. TAMU and Ole Miss are gonna become much more challenging. So Napier is gonna have to transfer the recruiting success to On Field success which is not always an easy task. Speaking of recruiting you Eagerly pointed out some players that UGA offered on and you called them “misses”. A Big LOL have you bothered to Notice where Kirby and his staff have landed in pretty much All the recruiting stats since he came to UGA ??!!?? Just as Kirby has said “we can’t get them all”. And that’s So True. Can only have so many scholarship players on the team !! Have you Noticed how Little that Kirby has dipped into the transfer portal as compared to Many other SEC schools ??!!?? It’s Not because he can’t, it’s because he doesn’t Need to !! He Will use it very judiciously when he does use it. That’s because he and staff are recruiting at such a high level from high school !! Napier Is a good coach. And he appears to be a pretty good recruiter. But if you think that he’s just gonna come in and render UGA irrelevant you couldn’t be more mistaken !! Lastly and I’ll close, Yes the Dawgs should be an Offensive PowerHouse this year, but I bet our Defense is gonna surprise Allot of people and be Much better than the “experts” think !! Allot of the kids on Defense are indeed young, but you’d be hard pressed to find a better Coaching staff getting them ready for the real deal !! Go Dawgs !! Sorry so lengthy !!

Agreed, thadec. There's nothing disrespectful in ranking UGA No. 3. It's perfectly reasonable and respectful, especially given that Georgia lost 15 players to the draft and 13 to transfers.

As Coach said, more than a third his players this year will be freshmen and he has freshmen playing number two in multiple defensive positions (which he doesn't consider ideal). I suspect he'd rather be ranked No. 3 than No. 1 -- for motivational purposes.

We have loads of talent but so do Bama and Ohio State. And both of them are returning more starters.. Plus, Alabama, in particular, strengthened itself with at least four new starters via the TP.

AP's 1-2-3 are the same as almost everyone's. And, like everyone else, AP is putting a big difference between the top three and all other teams.

If our offense click on all cylinders and if our defense matures quickly, we'll end the season better than Ohio State and maybe Alabama (whose sole question mark seems to be OL). I'd much rather start at No. 3 and move up than the other way around.
