Dawgs’ stingy defense shines again, but offense must refocus
It’s tough to come off a big win and maintain intensity against a lesser opponent.

Good story, Bill.
I'm sure many of us look forward to all your articles.
Go, Dawgs!
Good article, Bill, as always! Perhaps a little too gloomy, but I think we are all currently in the rarefied air of expecting perfection each and every week! Great time to be Georgia Bulldog! 😎
I get what you're saying... but on the other hand I think UGA offense is ranked #2 in the nation right now. So I'm not exactly in worry mode yet.
Meh. Got up to a 30-0 halftime lead in a game that had no business being scheduled in the first place, and the offense switched on autopilot. Not ideal, but also not an issue. For all intents and purposes, this was tantamount to a lackluster effort in practice. Sure, Smart will be displeased, as well he should, and will use that dissatisfaction as a basis for getting onto the players all week so as to reacquire their focus. But the actual result itself was completely inconsequential.
Agree with all the prior posters here. Not sure why some others are getting particularly worried here, as this is what these kind of games are for: shaking off the dust/rust of the veterans and honing the cutting edges of the newbies. Had this been the energy level against an SEC for (any one of them).... while different story.
Frankly, I'm glad it gave Kirby some legitimacy in pushing everyone in this week's practices!
Looking for the silver lining, this game may be a blessing in disguise. Watching the special team follies in the games I watched and the highlight shows, the Dawgs got some work in all areas of special teams and looked good. As fun as it is watching the Dawgs run up and down the field scoring touchdowns, at some point in the season, we may need a good snap, a good hold, and Pod to put it through the uprights. Been there, done that against Samford will be a positive when it has to be done against better competition.
Great reminder of that 1977 game, Bill.
I was a student at that game and fondly remember, and participating in, the "**** Good Prince" chant and the Soul Man's rendition of "Dooley's Junkyard Dawgs"!
Really mad at myself in not remembering that Donna Douglas was there as well......oh well!
Also, remember a banner being held up that said, in effect, "Prince Charles does it Dog Style" !!! Seem to remember a picture of the Prince pointing and laughing that was published in the Red and Black!
Still one of my favorite games (half time show, at least ) ever!
Thanks for the memory lane walk!
Go Dawgs!
Definitely one of the coolest halftime shows of all time! Thank you for the details on Prince Charles visit. Definitely want to forget the 1977 game but the convergence of the Prince, the Godfather of Soul and Donna Douglas was off the charts!
As far as the offense and Stetson goes, he was high or long (early deep pass) on most of the throws he missed and some he made (guys were having to sky to catch the ball). I'm not sure what caused that but hopefully it is easily corrected and we roast the chickens this weekend!
Also, there was an amusing anecdote in the last week or so with USCe having to change the name of their live mascot to The General and then being able to change it back to Sir Big Spur (never knew that was his name until last year's game) once a dispute was resolved.
