SEC Power Rankings: Georgia is the new Georgia, not the new -- or old -- Alabama
ATHENS — Georgia is the new Georgia, not the new or old Alabama.

GREAT points MG! Thanks so much for putting the state of the SEC into perspective. Georgia appears to be on cruise control for the next several weeks - while all the while, getting those younger players more experience...it's going to be hard on other teams once Georgia gets everything rolling...GO DAWGS!
To put the ‘22 team into perspective, according to Saban, last year was a rebuilding year for Bama. This year is a rebuilding year for the Dawgs. How can it not be with all the talent they lost?
Yet, it’s not that they are winning, it’s how they are winning. During rebuilding years, underclassman have to step up. Rather than making underclassman mistakes, these pups are making plays that are beyond college level.
Also look to special teams where many underclassman get on the field. Through three weeks, special teams have been a circus all across college football. Other than the SC fake punt, the Dawg’s STs have been outstanding.
This coaching staff is the best in the nation. Kudos to the players for buying in and being coachable!
When Kirby first got to Athens, the UGA football program was considered a sleeping giant. That sleeping giant is now fully awake and Kirby has turned it into a monster that feeds at a 52x120 yard trough. Go DAWGS!
Looking back to last season and so far, this season, Georgia is clearly the premier program in college football.
Georgia was never challenged in any game in 2021- with the exception of the one game that didn't really matter.
Alabama has been the standard for 15 years, but they looked beatable in multiple games during the 2021 season, and they look just as vulnerable this year.
Losing Pickens and your 5-star starting QB, and several other receivers would've sunk any other teams NC chances. Just ask Alabama.
How is Kirby doing it? How can you adequately replace two first-round picks at defensive end (Travon Walker-Mykel Williams) and safety (Lewis Cine-Malaki Starks) with two true freshmen? Coaching and development.
Recruiting is only the first ingredient, coaching and development are what separates Georgia from every other team.
Will this team win the National Championship? The odds are against it, but they do have the best program in CFB.
“…in spite of Stetson…”. I will just remind everyone that JT was fully healthy the last seven games of the 2021 season and did not play. Stetson Bennett LED the Dawgs to the National Championship. Had he been the better option you can bet Kirby would have used him. The MG Bromance with JT continues.
Georgia -- a program that lost 15 players to the NFL draft, and another 13 to the transfer portal, including four former starters. Anybody heard that?
Yeah… just when I thought we had moved on from the JT is better than Stetson narrative, here MG comes in the back door with another article… it isn’t subtle, and it is a tired argument. 😐
yep....he is like a dog with a bone, he just wants to be right:
There is a reason why JT transferred, the cream rose to the top.
Dang, 3 of the top 4 teams are in the SEC East. Times are changing. Go Dawgs!!!
Go Dawgs!!!
Definitely built a program that will be a top performer year in and year out. Plus, with the changes in the East, the conference will be better balanced just as they remove the divisions and move into the new alignment for the addition of horns down and Okie. As much as I liked Richt, it seemed that we would celebrate the signing of 1 5-star and now with KS, the bench is full of very capable players regardless of the stars. Great time to be a DAWG fan so soak it in.
From a numbers perspective. I believe most college teams will lose 25+/- every year due to using up eligibility, portal, draft, etc. thus each season there are freshman and transfers ready to go. Not sure why the media keeps bringing this up like it’s something new. Sure the draft quality was high, but pure numbers, this happens every year
After disrespecting Stetson’s talents and abilities at every opportunity last year, Mike Griffith is now looking for a way out of his lack of talent evaluation now that Stetson is a true Sec QB and being mentioned as a Heisman finalist. The constant refrain about Stetson’s size and arm was a weekly narrative in practically every MG article last year. This years’ performance by Bennet and his “sudden improvement” should give a reader pause to consider that his opinions and “coaching tips” are without merit.
Suddenly, espn is all about the Dawgs. Somebody suggested that espn is trying to PO saban and get him fired up. .
" was considered a sleeping giant. That sleeping giant is now fully awake"
Love that line!
"I feel we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve....." Isoruku Yamamoto , Japanese Marshal Admiral of the Imperial Japanese Navy during WWII after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Also 4 of the bottom 5 :/
Still progress to be made.
