There's really no villains except for maybe John Kreese or pony tail man. It's mostly just a collection of stupide people doing stupide things to move the plot forward. But I drink every bit of it up 😂
It's becoming very 90210-ish. One of the things I noticed (and what makes Danny a villain) is that for all his talk about using karate for good and not trying to settle disputes with fighting.....he settles all his disputes by starting a fight. He's even had to be restrained a couple times from starting more fights. I really liked how in season one they addressed the fan theory of Danny being the real bully (which he was). I wished they had kept that going.
He really lost his way without Mr. Miyagi.
Speaking of the writers, if I was writing the show one big change I would have made is to Krese's back story. Instead of him being a real war hero bad-azz, I would have made him some kind of stolen valor guy or just an admin pogue, who through dumb luck or mistaken identity inadvertently saved Silver's life...but in reality it was something really cowardly. Something like their camp being overrun and Krese running away instead of manning his post and trips, knocking Silver out of the way and accidentally falling on a grenade. Silver, thinking it was an act of extreme courage and sacrifice, puts him in for a Medal of Honor or something. Krese is a hero. In order to maintain the facade of tough-guy hero, Krese gets into martial arts. Eventually, Silver would learn the truth and exact his revenge for making him spend his life indebted to Krese.
It would also help explain why there is a total lack of adult students at Cobra Kai. Krese knows it's easier to manipulate kids. He's lived a life of lies. Kids don't ask questions.
Yeah, I've spent way too much time thinking about this....
I've noticed that Chozen is starting to talk exactly like Miyagi. Same voice, same advice....
Don't forget that Kreese showed courage as a teen-ager when he defended the young lady from her football hero boyfriend at the local diner. That makes me think there's a good guy hidden somewhere in there.
I havent seen any of the latest season yet. I was binging on the first 2 seasons when I discovered the show but trailed off with the later ones as it got more and more far-fetched and further away for the original premise. Johnny Lawrence as just a misunderstood villain and Danny LaRusso as the real heel was an awesome and entertaining story line. I will most likely still swing back around to see what happens next, but I am a lot less excited about it.
Just finished season 6. Quite a letdown. They really need to end this thing. It was really good for the first couple of seasons, but the last 3 or so seasons were nothing but just childish misunderstandings, petty boyfriend/girlfriend jealousy, and weak story lines. It's not even funny or clever anymore. The fighting has improved dramatically, but the stories are just dumb. Very 90210-ish. Just very disappointing overall. Should have ended the series after season 3.
surprised you finished it. Whenever a show falls off I just drop it. Did that with Billions and never looked back.
I dropped Billions too. Who won?
couldn’t tell you. The whole grand scheme all works out in the end through the backdoor season finales got a little too much for me. Plus making every character interaction involve some sort of pop culture or athletic reference.
If I’m not enjoying a show I’m usually not a glutton for punishment and finish it just to finish it.
I'd watch a show that showed how 6 or 7 of these series ended - ones I dropped due to lack of interest. Did they catch the bad guy? Is the good guy really a bad guy? Seems like a lot of these series run out of steam around season 2-3. Do you think it is bad writing or poor subject matter or ?
that’s what Wikipedia is for haha
I think Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Paramount don't really map out their shows past 2-3 seasons. That way if the show bombs they just drop it and they haven't wasted much time. If it's a hit then they just figure out a way to drag it out for as long as possible.
I'm still trying to figure out why there isn't a new series of Stranger Things and Squidgame. It's been years and those are their most popular shows.
I’d go even further and at the creators have no idea beyond season 1. Maybe a rough outline but nothing set in stone.
Can’t speak to squid game, but Stranger Things I think the creators are taking their time after rushing season 3 (felt rushed) Netflix is fine to wait since it’s such a huge hit.
