These rankings are a perfect example of the problem with a 12 team playoff. Numbers 5,6, and 7 shouldn’t even be sniffing the playoffs, yet there they are. If any of those three get in and get hot and win out, how can anybody say with a straight face that their team is the best in the country when:

    a) Ohio State got annihilated at home by their conference champ (or worst if Michigan should lose.)

    b) Alabama lost their division to a four loss team (should LSU lose to Georgia) AND to a team that got trounced by South Carolina.

    c) Tennessee lost decisively to the division champ and gave up nine TDs to a team that didn’t score an offensive TD the week before to a horrid Florida team.

If 5, 6, and 7 is the best the committee has to offer as possible playoff contenders, the top four should remain the top four regardless of the results of the conference championships.

Take THAT, ESPN "expert" Heather Dinich! The dawgs are on top regardless of whether you want them there or not! GO DAWGS!

One more thought: It really doesn’t matter who the other teams are nor the seedlings. Just like our regular season, for UGA to lose, our opponents will have to get A LOT of help from the Dawgs. If we play even relatively clean games, we will have double digit wins all the way to the natty!

They got the top 5 right, but absolutely floored anyone who has watched college football this year could put bama as 6. Yes Tenn got blitzed by SC, but beat Bama head to head and significantly beat theor only other common opponent in LSU (I am far from a uTenn fan). I know our Dawgs will take care of business regardless who they play (This is the season for Dooley), but over the over inflation of a bama team that should have lost to a&m and Tx.

Hoping top 4 hold true on this last game. Think playing USC would be a fun game.

Go Dawgs and see you at the game!

I'm confuzzed... she had the Dawgs as #1 on her most recent ranking... didn't she? Think she was just being provocative, but still put UGA on top.

Heather Dinich: 1. Georgia 2. Michigan 3. TCU 4. USC

This year, yes. Some years I can see a good shot for the 5 ,6, 7, even 8 team. 12 is ridiculous, and gives an unfair advantage to the top 4 with a bye week.

Too many people complaining about the soon to be expanded playoffs. C'mon folks, FCS already has a 24-team playoff that fans LOVE and that works. I say we move to the FCS model.

Right now there are 43 bowl games. Ridiculous. You can be a team that's barely batting .500 and be in a bowl. Undeserving teams making a mockery of what used to be a very small set of really important bowl games between Christmas and New Years. Traditions have been put aside and lost while anyone with cash and a venue can host a new bowl with the next silliest name put on it.

WHY?? This bowl MADNESS has got to end.

You've got players opting out of playing in bowls that aren't part of the playoffs. Even CJ Stroud said that he wouldn't commit to playing in a non-CFP bowl game after the Ohio State loss last weekend.

So why not increase the number of teams to 24 ((4) 4-team brackets), get rid of most of the worthless bowl games, and use the others as playoff games (after hosting 1st round games on campuses)? Sounds like a plan.

More viable and worthwhile games, more intrigue, more importance, players opting IN instead of out now that their team is in the playoffs.

With your 24 team playoff you can cancel the entire CFB season. Just take the preseason Top 25 have 1 play in game and go. 8 is probably the best number for competitive games and some urgency for making the top 8.

@UGADad20....hey, the 24-team playoff works for the FCS and certainly doesn't nullify the regular season. Their playoffs are exciting, and I watch many of the games.

The bowl season has more worthless games for undeserving teams than I can count. I don't know anyone who actually watches any of those games until closer to New Years Day. They do call it the College Football Playoff TOP 25 for a reason - None of those teams has more than 4 loses and there definitely could be some great matchups. Much better than the current bowl season.

And do you realize there are (4) weeks between the Championship games and the FBS playoffs? What a waste....
