Sometimes numbers don’t tell the entire story. There isn’t one single statistic that explains why Georgia became the first team in the College Football Playoff era to win back-to-back championships.

I will say this as an aside...several articles have mentioned the fact that Bama has so rarely gone undefeated during the season. That is simply because they play in the tougher SEC West division. Bama has been beaten more than once by West opponents Texas A&M, Ole Miss, LSU, and Auburn. If Georgia and Bama had switched places over the last 10 years then we'd see the same thing happen to the Dawgs. It is extremely difficult to go undefeated playing in the West. The East has typically been a weaker division. I will be glad when the divisions are gone and we have more parity and change up on the matchups each year in the SEC.
Only SEC East teams to defeat Alabama under Nick Saban:
2007: Georgia. 2008: Florida (SEC Championship) 2010: South Carolina. 2021: Georgia (National Championship). Tennessee (2022)

Everyone who wants to talk about how good Saban is should realize that he's only the second best coach in Alabama's history. Paul "Bear" Bryant was the G.O.A.T. for all of college football.
Kirby has a chance to rewrite the history books if he continues on his current trajectory. He could be the future G.O.A.T.
Those are impressive stats but with the talent expected on the 2023 team we may see even better stats, This is a great time to be a Dawg fan. In the 62 years I've been watching college football and I consider 1980, 2021, and 2022 as my favorites.
I also think the best is yet to come for Dawg fans. We may see Kirby Smart do for UGA football what John Wooden did for UCLA basketball.
