Tailgating information requested
Hi Dawg fans! I am planning on driving to Athens from Chicago for the 2023 opener and would like to tailgate a bit with my wife before the game. In 2018, I got to campus around 6 AM for the Tennessee Game (3 or 4 PM kick?) and parked for free near the Dairy and Animal Science Building near the US 78/College Station Rd intersection. Had a great time, no permit required and definitely got some miles in walking around campus🤣. Seemed at that time most of the campus was open for free parking and tailgating on a first come/served basis. Not sure how things are now post-COVID. I checked one of the UGA game day sites, and tailgating/parking rules seem to be the about the same with a couple areas closer to the stadium requiring permits. Just would like to know if any permits or reservations are required now for the rather remote area I described above.
Thanks!

I always park at Clarke Central High School....20 bucks (as a donation to the school) and you walk straight down Baxter into the Stadium! Tailgating with alcohol seems to be allowed there....at least everyone does it
The walk uphill after the game can be trying....but there are places to eat on the way (or to stop and rest if needed)
Best thing is that once you are in the car, you are gone.....minimal traffic leaving Athens from there!!
Good Luck!
PM sent
Seems like I remember cracking open a keg in the middle of the Clark Central soccor field at about 2 a.m. one time. Heh, heh ...
Now you’re talking…..!🤣
That sounds like a good option! What time would you recommend arriving at the High School for a 6 PM game start time in order to assure a spot? We will be staying in Greenville, SC that weekend so we have a bit of a drive to Athens.
It's about 1:45 drive to Athens from Greenville taking 85-S to the Carnesville Hwy 106 exit at which point you're 30 miles from Athens. Check to see if there's a home Clemson game which could increase the traffic on 85 there.
The parking lot is huge.... I never have a hard time finding a place in there even two hours before the game.....plan on 20-45 minute walk to the stadium
It does fill up with revelers on the bigger games......many times with opposing fans and their tents but since we open with UT Martin, not sure you should have any trouble at all!
Oh, and they open the gym up for use of their restrooms!
Have fun!
Thanks for all the great info! We are looking forward to the trip and are sure it will be a good one!
Just double checked with the security department at Clarke County School District and the confirmed that Central High School allows tailgating. BUT....the man I spoke with said that open container laws are enforced on school property. I was hoping to have a few Classic City Lagers while I was there. Any info on that?
You can always fill up a sip cup. Lo tech stealth.
Always have done it….never been a problem, so I just don’t know what to say….
