I stayed in the Grand Hotel Malahide on a business trip in 1994. Then drove across to County Kerry with a colleague whose grandmother had a ticket for the Titanic!
Here’s the true story:

Gotcha. This was our first trip to Ireland. I have never seen people drink so much.; It was impressive. And everyone is a smart @ss....the sense of humor was infectious. Not a lot of attractive folks though...all that fog and Guiness keeps 'em short, rotund and away from dentists at all costs. I brought the best looking girl with me from home.
they drink on their lunch breaks and if it’s the day off they are drinking from the crack of dawn. They live life like it’s a tailgate
What an awesome philosophy - live life like it's a tailgate. Whooooaaa.
That is exactly what I saw. The pubs were rolling from morning on. Tanker trucks of Guinness as ubiquitous as MARTA buses. Makes me want to go to that Notre Dame-Navy game this year; I cannot imagine the party scene carnage that will ensue.
Makes me "cumha d'Eirinn".
When I was there back in 1994, we stopped in a pub in Malahide to try the Guinness. These 3 big guys sat down with us and watch me gingerly sip my beer. One exclaimed, “I take it the Guinness doesn’t agree with you.” I said it was okay, I’m just not a big beer drinker. Then all 3 picked up their pints and downed them in almost a single gulp! I couldn’t believe it! That’s the way they drink it; at least these guys did.
Live life like it's a tailgate!!
Was it at Gibney’s?
Maybe - I recall there was a small sculpture in the back outside area of the U2 band members - and this was in 1994.
