Time will tell, Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff are better QB's than SBIV for no other reason than consistency. Without a doubt SBIV was great but in flashes/quarters and at times he made some really bad mistakes. Particularly, Carson given the amount of time he has "simmered" within our system, will prove to be the difference.....plus he will be helped by the outstanding core of receives that will all vie for playing time.

Alabama was a running team with a stout defense who would wear opponents down. They were more successful at this then anyone in the history of modern college football (70s forward imo).

Now part of this was their recruiting was so elite in the trenches and they had great assistants.

The elite qb offensive model is based really on having 2 elite wrs and a very accurate qb who is great decision maker. Problem is their are only so many of these guys and if you lose just 1 of the 3 key components you can lose (exactly what happened last 2 years).

So Georgia copied Alabama's model. Nick with one of his best qbs and 2 elite wrs and a bunch of very very good ones could not win when the wrs either got injured or didn't produce as expected (see Burton). The recruiting in the trenches has not produced the volume of elite talent they did earlier this century.

So yes, Alabama is trying to go back to the model they had perfected because it gives you a better chance to win.
