53 man roster seems a little outdated.

He performed well. He couldn't have done any better really. God has other plans.

Washington was always going to go with Brisset and Howell. Fromm did very well, maybe he can at least catch on somewhere as an emergency QB.

I agree that the 53 man roster seems outdated. Frankly, I can't see how teams are able to work within those numbers. Two injuries at a position can dramatically affect your season.

The whole model works for the NFL very well. They get to pay a lot of guys minimum wage or practice team wages without the long term benefits (these kick in after 3 or 4 years). I forget what the free agent percent is but it is pretty high. So you pay the top stars x and then everyone else who makes a roster gets y and then all the guys working out on the side like Fromm hoping to make a practice squad or guys just working out hoping to get a call if you have some injuries (see offensive linemen...) get z. z is not that much. y is the league minimum which is 450 or something.

The practice squad of 250 sounds good but that is for risking long term injury etc with no chance to ever see the field in a game and 'breakout.' Not really a good deal imo unless you have no other options in life.

If you are a veteran - Fromm is in his 4th year plus this is his 3rd team - playing in the 4th quarter of preseason games then it means that teams are using you to limit injuries as much as possible. If you are a team's draft pick still on his rookie deal that they are trying to get as much experience as possible because they think that you might help them later in the year then that is different because once the season starts you go to the bench and this is your only shot at live playing time, and NFL teams usually try to wait till after the bye week to work in rookies who didn't make the 2 deep in training camp. Otherwise? Nah.

Back in the day, teams would give borderline guys a chance to shine in the last preseason game and late in games. But when they wound up having to cut those guys and try to stash them on the practice squad, it was counterproductive. Everyone else in the league would see them playing great in preseason games and try to sign them. "Oh, you put that WR who burned our 3rd string DB for 100 yards and 2 TDs on your practice squad? Well we will cut our third string DB, sign that WR off your practice squad and give him that DB's roster spot! You are more than welcome to sign our third string DB that couldn't cover your FORMER receiver in your own practice squad to take his place!"

That's why big numbers in those situations no longer mean much: they come against guys that the other team is planning on releasing anyway. Good news: Fromm still has some practice squad eligibility left (as he would still be on his rookie deal if Buffalo hadn't cut him). So he can start - and if need be finish - the season on the squad for the Redskins or some other team. But this year is his last shot to move up from third string QB to 2nd string QB in the NFL pecking order.

Maybe put on the practice squad since the rules change for the 3rd quarterback this year . Never understood why he left early but maybe it worked out for him . It’s all about being in the right place at the right time . The odds the Chicago backup overcame make Stetson look like Peyton Manning .

Fromm best qualities at this point seem to be going into the coaching profession... Long terms within 3 plus years making 500k or more on a decent programs coaching staff working your way up into the SEC coaching ranks.

Commanders #2QB, Jacoby Brisset, only has a 1 year deal. Fromm played better than him preseason but they went with Brisset because of his experience. Fromm can still be #2QB next year if not picked up on waivers and has another outstanding preseason. He is only 1 starting QB injury away from joining as a #2QB somewhere. The light is still on for his NFL career.

Honestly, he should be #2 on the Commanders now. Jacoby Brisset. C'Mon man. Ridiculous. I watched the games and it's not even a question who is better.

Who is the Falcons #2 qb? Logan Woodside, Toledo with 7 yards passing in his career. Go Falcons.
