Netflix review: Queen's Gambit
Just finished Queen's Gambit and loved it! Who would have thought a show about chess would be so great? And for you sports-freaks....it does have all the elements of a great sports movie. A gifted youth who is trained in a basement, an outsider struggling to fit in with the boys, obsessive-compulsive behavior for excellence, unrelenting study, practice, and desire to be the best, eventually fights her way to the top. It was so good I binge watched all 7 episodes straight through. Unfortunately, the producers said there will not be a second series.
I'd say this was probably my favorite Netflix show so far.
Comments
saw it when it first came out. Was very enjoyable and I know absolutely nothing about chess.
Agree 100%. Anya Taylor Joy was intense and incredible.
And as the father of a daughter, I really liked the angle of a woman competing in an activity that is virtually 100% men....but it wasn't sexist and she didn't get any favoritism or complain about her circumstances. She simply beat them all fair and square and was accepted as an equal. I thought that was very well done.
It's a strange show, but it's also very enjoyable, and quite well done.
I don't know anything about chess beyond the basic moves. That didn't get in the way of my enjoyment.
Go, Dawgs!
She was great in Peakey Blinders also.
I still play a little chess at chess.com from time to time. Not very good anymore. I used to know many of the good openings and could play a little.
Queen's Gambit was really well done I enjoyed it as well.
I tried to learn chess, but I'm too impatient for it. I don't think my brain works like that.
I love chess and enjoyed the movie. I just wish the language would have made it appropriate to show my son.
