Kirby Smart shares key to Georgia offense: ‘bigger voice ... bigger leadership’ from Carson Beck
MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. — Carson Beck can solve Rubik’s Cube in under a minute and read a defense in 5 seconds.

There will be as much pressure on Bobo to call creative, aggressive, and efficient plays as there will be on Beck to move the ball around to multiple receivers, protect the ball, and get us into the end zone. And we've got to get the TE position back to a strength and weapon with Bowers gone. We won't really have the luxury of easing into the season with easier opponents this season or next. I see this season as the biggest test we've had by far in Kirby's tenure.
I agree. In the past when we've touted our offensive line pre-season we haven't always seen the type of bully ball we thought we would get. Sometimes early on last year it felt like Bobo was being too cautious early on and it got us in tight contests that should not have been tight. We do not have Bowers or McKonkey to bail us out this year. To me the offense is a big question mark due to bona fide proven superstarts at the wr, te, and rb positions. That and the secondary at the corner positions when other teams go 4 wide. We have a very strong team but are unproven without Bowers our superstar. Who is our superstar this year on offense? Beck can't do it all by himself. If Beck has a bad game someone has to step up and be That guy.
CBeck better be able to read the defense in less than 5 seconds considering the average QB has 3.2 seconds to get the ball off.
Personally I think leading by example and playing with toughness that earns teammates respect trumps being a rah rah guy. Your best players need to outwork the rest of the team to be the best leaders. If the rank and file players see the stars coasting they tend to coast too. IF your best player also works the hardest it sends a message to everyone. There'll be no slackers on this team. The hardest working guys that come to mind first are Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Michael Jordan and Brock Bowers. That's Super Bowl, Super Bowl(x3), NBA champ(x6), and National Champion(x2).
Beck is talented and confident. But when he played another Top 3 team in the SECCG his inexperience and lack of poise under pressure showed. Even after 3 years and 13 games as a starter he wasn't ready. He needs to be taking every rep he can get and watch as much film as he can. He better not be joy riding in his Lamborghini and planning how to spend his NFL bonus. It is important to UGA's title hopes that CBeck elevate his play this year. It may take CBeck playing flawless ball to win it all this season.
@BigDawg888 "Sometimes early on last year it felt like Bobo was being too cautious early on " That wasn't Bobo that was CKS putting training wheels on inexperienced CBeck until he showed he could handle more. You can bet that CKS's finger prints were all over those O game plans.
LAST YEAR UGA had the talent to win ( I said win not cover) every regular season game just by showing up and not making mistakes. CKS knows this and kept CBeck under wraps until he could gain experience and demonstrate he was making the right decisions. He progressed well but not quite well enough to come up big in the biggest game.
Beck and Bobo each have a lot to prove this season.
