I fully agree Oregon just might be the big ten champ with their schedule. But let’s concern ourselves with the Dawgs running the SEC gauntlet first. Then we can discuss contenders and pretenders
Exactly Brookside and let Oregon prove they can win the biggest conference games on their schedule first.
Oregon is talented and does look very good! We will see what’s what when they play tOSU. I like Oregon so I hope the destroy the Buckeyes.
So Oregon is gonna be a powerhouse because they're being unlimitedly(that a word?) funded by Nike? I have the utmost respect for Dan Lanning, but what does that say about college football? Lane Kiffin was right all along, sadly.
Let's learn how to beat the Tide before we start worrying about the Ducks
It will definitely be an interesting college football season this year. As stated below, DAWGS need to worry about the DAWGS, and take care of business in the SEC first. If UGA and Oregon by chance happen to meet In the playoffs, that would be a great game. I respect Lanning to the fullest, and wish him nothing but the best every game. The only exception being, is if Oregon faces the DAWGS in the playoffs, or for all the marbles in the title game..GoDAWGS!
Yes, "unlimitedly" is a word. It's the adverb form for unlimited. I think it's safe to say that a certain amount of money "can" lead to results on the field, although there are exceptions including A&M, Ohio State, Texas and Oregon thus far who have invested a ton but don't have the Natty to go with it.
Knight is a different level of donor, though. He and his wife have given over $1B to Oregon, across all sectors, not just football. He ran at UofO and now Eugene is the mecca for T&F in the US, known as Track Town USA. Even then, I think there has to be some other factors involved, maybe even a little basic luck. Consider that the conference's true money-maker for years, USC, spent years feeling the impact of the Bush saga and Oregon had every opportunity to put them away, win every conference championship game, even a Natty but they never did. I mean, the Big10 took USC and ucla at full share, but Oregon was only a last-minute invite and had to accept just half the revenue share of the other teams.
Phil isn't buying anything that other teams aren't also putting on the field. Lanning is a good coach but he's not Kirby and neither is their staff. Autzen can be rowdy but like any other venue, their fans can be neutralized quickly. Even last year, with a deplorable defense, USC went up there and nearly staged a successful comeback. Lanning was sweating it out with under 5 minutes in the game. Depth is the only thing that salvaged that win.
I see them putting a cap on this thing at some point if they want to preserve the integrity of the game.
