Final grades from Georgia football 13-12 win over Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kirby Smart did not have the tone of someone who pulled out a narrow 13-12 win over a Kentucky team that was a three-touchdown underdog.

We play like that in 2 weeks and it’ll be the biggest blowout in the Kirby Smart era. I don’t want to hear about the road in the SEC is tough, obviously it was last night, but SC took the same team to the woodshed ON THE ROAD in the SEC last week. Change the narrative and convince your team that you’re going to go up there and whip their butts. Hope this was a convincing wake-up call for the Dawgs. And Bobo needs a better game plan, too vanilla. Bama will eat us up. Monken used to be able to scheme guys open, but we couldn't do that last night. And Beck just doesn't perform well at all under pressure. Definitely not a Heisman type performance.
The defense was the only saving grace of the entire night. Walker continues to be the Dawg's MVP.
At least Brett finally got some playing time!!
Not to mention Texas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, and possibly Ga Tech..
go watch Arch Manning’s confidence in his play and then go watch Carson. I wish Carson would show that fire and competitiveness in him. For UGA to have all this top talent they play like their freshman.
Pretty fair grades and I would like to see us drop to 2nd in the polls behind Texas. Definitely a very sloppy game. You would think that it was pouring rain due to the ball popping out of guys hands. We really didn't deserve to win and could've lost if any of a number of things were slightly different. Heck that one play would've been a Kentucky TD if not called an incomplete pass. I'm disappointed in the poor tackling, the passive play calling (adaptation was needed and didn't happen) and the overall sloppiness.
That all being said, despite the wave of negativity that is coming from fans and analysts over the next 2 weeks, the sky is NOT falling. Bama had a game every year like this. Heck, last year they had 3 games they won by 3 points including Arkansas. They always find a way to win and we did too. We will see a different team next week. Honestly, this was the wake up call we needed and we have the time needed to get it together.
😳
Ok Connor, I think your grades are based on hanging on for the win instead of really how things looked. I agree with special teams getting an A on the FG unit, but had a penalty on a kick return, some really questionable fair catch decisions on punt return and Thorson couldn’t pin them deep. The rest of the team gets a big fat F. The offense definitely deserves this grade. The defense did keep them out of the end zone, but they missed way too many tackles, couldn’t hardly get a 3 and out, and recovered only one fumble. Way too many penalties, some very questionable, but this team doesn’t look disciplined in that area. I’m very concerned about which Georgia team is going to show up in 2 weeks, the team from the 2nd half of the clemson game or the team from last night? I’m not confident at all about that game as I was before last night’s game. And Montana Dawg, you quoted me word for word from my post last night.
Go Dawgs!
The sky is not falling. Let's take the win. Let's respond correctly to the wake up call.
Kirby tends to be far more transparent than some folks think. All last week he told everyone Kentucky would be a very tough out. I'm not exactly sure what to take from his post game comments, but they were largely congratulatory to his team for continuing to chop wood long enough to win the game.
I think it very possible we don't have a very good team right now. If so, Kirby has the raw material to build. He also has very convincing come to Jesus teaching material thanks to Saturday night's performance.
The Dawgs could lose several games and will unless the team gets its collective head together. Carson does not look like an early round draft pick nor a Heisman candidate. The tight end group failed big time. We lost on both sides of the line of scrimmage. This did not look like the number one team in the country. Etc.
All that said, I believe Kirby & Company are fully capable of responding to the reality pill they were fed Saturday night.
Go, Dawgs!
DawgNation comment software gets an F. 😡
Kirby Smart and “transparent” are words that never should be used together.
I agree with all of the pessimists that have commented, and want to add one thing: We are in week 3, going to week 4-What in the world is going on with all the multiple injured players, on both sides of the ball?! Way more players with all of these nagging injuries that is keeping them off the field GOING INTO week 3 this weekend?
I think that maybe Coach Smart and his “iron sharpening iron” practice schedule maybe needs some tinkering-because that Dawg team I watched last night looked terrible on both sides of the ball-4 defensive lineman out with injury at the same time? I do not think I have ever seen that before going into a week 3 game.
Mike Bobo has to GO.
Football games are won and lost at the LOS. Collectively, I grade our performance last night a C. We will need massive improvement to have a chance vs. Alabama. CKS knows this.
On team resiliency I grade us an A. Proud of our Dawgs for not panicking and imploding.
Go Dawgs!
Tell kids non stop how tough it will be & eventually they believe it & play down to that level. Dawgs need to go into every game with the mentality & confidence to dominate the game. Last night KY came to play on defense & dominated GA’s line. The offense looked lethargic, slow, & timid all night. With the speed & talent on that side of the ball, they should be flying up & down the field. Last night looked like a major step backwards to 2020. Players tend to play like they practice. Resilient or not, with the remaining schedule, the Bobo & his offense better be ruthless & dominating the rest of the season or the Dawgs can forget the 12 team playoff & starting thinking about Memphis, Nashville or Birmingham as their post season destination.
Fair assessment. If you had asked to grade last night at 11:30pm, I would have given the whole team an F+, with the + for finding a way to win. Truthfully they got beat in every way but the score.
