Sometimes I mourn what the portal did.

    Go, Dawgs!

More senior player often get on the field when their more junior counterparts are more capable. I'm excited to see more of our last year's #1 recruiting class getting valuable reps. This coming game is the time to do it as the games just get harder down the stretch.

Yep! That being said....I bet there's about 130 other FBS Teams that would love to have UGA's problem.

Kirby, " Oh my...should I play this 5 star Freshman or this 5 star Sophomore? What to do...what to do.". Lol…embarrassment of riches and we still wring our hands over injuries and crimes.

IMO....Kirby could pick any 11 players on his team, and beat half the teams they play. Lol…Auburn and Texas aren't 2 of em.

From what i've seen this year....there is more "parity" than ever before...throughout CFB. Vandy and Ga Tech could even pose a threat to compete for a spot in the CFP. That would definitely NOT be the case, without NIL/TP.

    Isn't this what everybody wanted?

IMO....right now....we have a handful of Really Good Teams...and a plethora of MediocreTeams. But, NO Great Teams. Yet, anyway.

The team that figures out a way to keep all of it's players on campus for a minimum of 3 years....has a chance to be great. Regardless of the ranking of their recruiting classes.

You take 85 17-18 yr old quality athletes, committed to playing winning football….and place them in a 3-4 year Program, of UGA's quality. The output could be staggering....cause, nobody else is doing it.

I've seen a LOT of mediocre and inconsistent football, this year, across the board. Moreso, than in years past. I think all the transferring and business planning has gotten in the way of the main objective....playing "Winning Footbal" on every play, in every game.

It's almost as if, CFB threw up it's arms in defeat and yielded to the money and greed. This ain't College Football. It's semi-professional ball. Entertaining…but, player and team development have suffered greatly. It shows on the field, too.

Somebody will figure this out. And, when they do....they'll own CFB.

That room is plenty deep. Time for young pups to grow up and step up. Go Dawgs!

Not a peep in the entire article about 2nd yr, 4* ILB Troy Bowles. I wonder where he will be playing next season?

I have an idea for a new contract, I want to float.

Consider this....A University's HC, through a 3rd party.…signs a mutual contract with a recruit, that states [in effect].....

If the player leaves prior to his 3rd year or graduation....he forfeits all NIL proceeds dating back to the date of the contract.....and....if the HC leaves [for any reason except death] prior to the player's 3rd year....he forfeits a percentage [arbitrated] to the players that signed the contract.

It wouldn't be a University contract....but, an enforceable contract between the HC and Player. Maybe, the 3rd party would be the Collective....I don't know.

Like I said…just floatin' ideas. Lol

    1. Not sure that contract would be enforceable in a court of law.
    2. What coach would limit himself contractually when it is not required now?
    3. No players are giving any money back. Let's say the SEC institutes that contract rule. Guess what? Players are falling all over themselves to take Ohio State's money.
    4. That type of contract undermines the #1 reason players decide to transfer from UGA. The vast majority of players that transfer from UGA do so because they are not developing as anticipated, have been recruited over and have been "encouraged" to find a better situation for themselves.

One thing is clear, UGA will need a bigger NIL fund to compete for the highest rated players. Some teams are throwing money around like it is nothing. TX, OR and OSU come to mind.

Speaking of OSU, have you seen Jerimiah Smith play yet? He is already the best WR in CFB.

The way I see it....with the program UGA has in place....they don't really need 5 star athletes all over the field. What they need is a committed group of good football players that keep both eyes on the field....not, one eye on the field one eye on the portal and one foot out the door. UGA doesn't need that.

IMO...That's one of the reasons, Vanderbilt has been so successful this year. They have a group of guys that have played together and bonded in the trenches for more than a year. That's gonna be the new winning formula.

Imagine, if Vandy had a bunch of 4 and 5 star athletes all over the field. They'd be unstoppable. But...as it is...they are limited by the quality of athlete they bring in and the coaching staff. UGA doesn't have that problem.

    You're probably right about the contract…I don't know. Like I said...floatin'. But....here it is.

Right now, there's an agreement between player and school [Coaching Staff]. In return for an education and monthly stipend...come play for us and we'll train you with a multimillion dollar Coaching Staff, Doctors & Tutors....pamper you with your own personal Barber, Psychologist and Nutritionist...etc., etc., etc..

In return for all that....a simple commitment is requested from the school....go to practice and perform your feats in good faith, while maintaining your GPA.

Now....Players are making money [supposedly] on their name, image & likeness....which usually includes the school's insignia.

The player is being compensated by the school & NIL Collective. The schools only compensation is the player's performance, which is anticipated to improve year to year. By the player's 3rd yr....he's usually considered salty.

And...THAT'S when they want to transfer to the highest bidder. They've made a "name" on the backs of their University, it's Coaching Staff and Teammates. Sounds harsh....but, that's it in a nutshell, unless I'm missing something.

All i'm sayin' is....I don't know of any investment made, that a return wasn't expected. Now that they want to put a monetary value on "a player". If a player leaves after 2 years of quality training....how is the University [and State or Board, if applicable] compensated for an investment transferring to another school, with only a thank you. Lol....he took up space that could've been occupied by someone with the "right values".

'Course....the reverse can be true too. What if....a quality Coach leaves a program at a player's 1st or 2nd yr mark?....and, that player committed and put all his faith in the coaching he was getting. The player made an investment in being trained and educated a certain way. Isn't he entitled to compensation for the setback to his training....possibly delaying his NFL entry. That's a loss.

I'm not talking about just the few we hear, splashed in the news every six months [or weeks]. I'm talking about all players...all schools. Either, it's a business or it's not. In a business....all sides are covered by contract.

And....if CFB is NOT a business...what is it? An arena where citizens toss gold bars at the heroes. I don't remember voting for that, do you? The player has nothing but his health on the line....but, he knew that, the day he picked up a football…so, what's at stake for him, if he fails to live up to the contract requiring him to stay 3 yrs?

Kieby said they have to pay fines out of their NIL money. Just have their NIL money placed in an escrow or trust, until the end of year 3. Money can be withdrawn for specific pre-approved purposes. It eliminates a lot of distractions and keeps the focus on football and education.

Anybody can strike it rich. But...if you don't know what to do with the money...you won't have it long. Nobody is doing these kids any favors. It's "good" that they get compensated...but, "great" if they're educated and have character.

Well…crap. Didn't mean to go on so long. Just started pouring out. Lol
