Good analysis Mike. I think you hit on the major high level points that are concerning as we head to Austin. We're 5-1, but it feels like we could easily be a 4-2 team or even a 3-3 team to me. Consistent play and lack of player leadership are the glaring issues. Smart shouldn't be the one who has to beg for production and fire up the players on the sidelines. Why we can't put together 60 minutes of good football is baffling.

We have very few transfers on this team in comparison to other top teams. Team cohesion when bringing in outsiders will be a challenge for all teams going forward. We've seen the good and the bad with transfers, but that's the way of college football now. Better figure it out if we want to keep the program in the top tier. Like you noted, several top teams are struggling for whatever reason. Texas and Oregon seem to be playing the best right now.

Let's hope we show up in Austin firing on all cylinders and aggressive in our approach.

    GO DAWGS!!

Excellent article. Mike. There IS something different and lacking about this football team. I can't really put my finger on it, but when you watch them compete, the thoughts of motivation and hunger come to mind. Let's hope the leadership in this team gets their desire to win to come to the top. As my CO often said—"motivated" 19 and 20 year olds can accomplish almost anything. GO DAWGS

We advocate having a great OL but fail to have much success on 3 downs from the one. Is that the RB or OL. No one cares to specify, just correct. Do we have DB's that can not perform man on man, figure out a way to add support. Learn to detect the wheel route and practice containment on running QBs. We may practice these things but they seem to be forgotten at game time. We have got to step up our game to compete with Texas

"But this 2024 breed of UGA Bulldogs have not shown the same consistency as past litters, no longer executing at an elite level regardless of opponent, juncture of game or score."

They don't "eat off the floor" anymore!

@kylnmeg10....yes, complacent...or entitled? Wondering the same and have been for weeks now.

Coaching? Not sure. Could be part of it.

And injuries are part of football and aren't an excuse either. We've been recruiting at the highest level of the game the past several years. We've got the players for the most part. The OL and defensive secondary are the glaring issues I see right now. No dominance on either side of the ball. Texas could easily run us over if we don't find some MOJO from somewhere. We'd better show up hungry or it could be a long evening. The Longhorns are only going to get better as the season progresses.

If Miss St had thrown the ball in the 1st half as they did in the 2nd half they would have won the game. Let that sink in a moment. A freshman QB, starting in only his 2nd game? Went on the road in the SEC(Kirby always talking about how hard it is to win on the road in the SEC) for Miss St, not BAMA or Texas or Ohio St. but MIss. St. ! Against UGA no less! and by the end of the game he wasn't shell shocked over on the bench with a towel over his head having to be consoled by his brothers, but was feeling his oats against us. And was starting to look like he could lead his team to victory if there was more time on the clock! We couldn't sack him and we left receivers pretty much wide open enough to where he gained his confidence and started throwing pin-point darts.

Can anyone on this forum imagine if Ryan Puglisi went on the road against BAMA in his 2nd start? We made a Fr QB for a pretty bad team look like he ought to be the Heisman front runner next season!

Somewhere Quinn Ewers is licking his chops.

Here are some interesting facts that have been reported on previously concerning the transfer portal:

Georgia lost (23) players prior to the beginning of this season to the portal. All of the players who transferred out were NOT starters in 2023. Most transferred to schools that are not currently in the AP Top 25.

At the end of the day, Georgia football only lost (1) player in the transfer window that was projected to be a starter during the 2024 season.

SEC teams that lost the most starters to the transfer portal during the 2023-24 cycle:

    Vanderbilt - (9) players; Miss State (9); FLA (7); Arkansas (6); TN (6); Texas A&M (6); Bama (4); Auburn (2); Georgia Bulldogs (1)

Georgia added (11) players from the portal to its roster.

Referencing 3rd and short on the goalline. Bobo must have found Monken's playbook under a desk and finally put the QB under center and put a big lineman in the backfield as lead blocker and scored both times. Well, it only took him 6 games.

I agree that CFB has changed with the transfer portal and NIL. CFB has an NFL look about it. Everyone looks beatable. Parity is not the problem I see with our Dawgs. Football is still football. It boils down to no less than four things - mental focus, blocking, tackling, and execution. How many mental mistakes, missed blocks, dropped passes, missed tackles, and poor execution have we seen this year? Plenty. Those things keep an opponent hanging around. If CKS can get our Dawgs performing consistently they can run the table from here.

    Go Dawgs!

About transfers, ILB Dumas Johnson would definitely be a starter and LBs Tres Marshall and Sorey would have seen significant playing time.

@shamymax…good point. I definitely won't argue with you on Dumas Johnson. He said he transferred to "have more fun". Interesting. The other ones are debatable. I updated my numbers below from 0 to 1 player.

Just trying to dig a little deeper to see how any transfers from GA might have affected the Dawgs. Vandy had the most starters leave and is performing well beyond expectations this season. Miss State played us a game on Saturday and their QB picked us apart in the 2nd half. Go figure.

Bottom line: Transfers out not much affect on the Dawgs.

Maybe the Dawgs need to lose more starters to the portal and that will fix what ails them! HA!

If I hear the word "elite" anymore it is probably time to remove it from the English language dictionary. Try to find a few more synonyms to describe superiority and make things more interesting again.😳

They did throw the ball in the first half genius…

MSU had 116 yds passing in the first half. End half 190 yds…306 total

3 plays led to the yardage….over half of the total.

Open receivers in the first half….open in 2nd half. Threw equally as much.

Got more opportunities because the dadgum offense quit moving the ball.
