ATHENS — When Georgia wrapped its game against UMass, it did not have a clear path to the SEC Championship game. The Bulldogs, who finished their SEC slate with a 6-2 record after beating Tennessee last week, needed help to get back to Atlanta.

Given the current landscape of college football's post season maybe being in the SEC championship game isn't as attractive as it once was. They lost the SEC championship game last year by a field goal and didn't make the playoff even though they were the best team in the country for most of the season. Dawgs could use the time off to get well and the additional practice time to work on getting better.

I am thrilled that the Dawgs will be playing in the SECCG. We are the toughest conference in the land and I want UGA to be the king of this conference. We have the tools. We have the talent (It’s Miller time!).

I want to humiliate that arrogant tech squad and play the complete game as we have seen and no one beats us. Make Sanford rock this coming Friday and then bring home the SEC trophy. The circumstances do not matter. We took care of business and won our “must win” . They didn’t.

Worst thing that could have happened. All we needed to do was get by Tech, slide in the CFP, hopefully as the 8th seed, and take two weeks to heal up. Now we're backs to the wall and have to bat .1000 to make the playoffs. A three loss team ain't going regardless if they play in their league championship.

True it’s tough being in the SEC CG if we beat GT, but completely false if we lose to GT because we would be out of the playoffs with a loss. On the flip side, if we were to lose to the bugs we would have a bye in the first round with a win in the SEC CG. Dang, that makes no sense whatsoever. I assure you that Ole Miss and Bama would kill today to be in the CG, but 24 hours ago they didn’t want to play in the game. Wow, amazing how quickly we can change our tune. Go Dawgs and kick the bugs in their little stingers!!!

I completely agree. Nothing this so called playoff committee has done so far gives me any reason to believe they’ll put in a 3 loss Georgia team regardless if lose by one point, 100 points, or a very controversial play in the SEC title game. I was hoping for a home playoff game.

@DMVDawg UGA wasn't "the best team for most of 2023". They were only ranked #1 because of what they accomplished in 2021 and 2022. On the field, 2023 UGA not only merely beat 11-2 Ole Miss, 11-2 Missouri, 9-4 Tennessee and a bunch of 7-6 or worse teams but usually looked average in the process. At no point were they anywhere near as dominant as Michigan, who won their first 9 games by 25 or more points and even looked better against Ohio State and Penn State than UGA did against 5-7 South Carolina, 6-7 Auburn and for my money 2-10 Vandy.

Everyone in 2023 knew going into that weekend that the conference title games were going to be an extra playoff game. There were 4 undefeated teams (Michigan, Washington, UGA, FSU) plus 3 very strong 1 loss teams (Oregon, Texas, Bama). UGA fans used the committee's leapfrogging Texas over FSU as an excuse to indulge in a bunch of revisionist history. What UGA fans actually wanted was for the committee to stick UGA in the 2023 field based on the accomplishments of the 2021-2022 teams but you can't do that in a year where there are 8 teams good enough to make the playoff (the 7 that I mentioned plus Ohio State, 11-1 with their only loss by 6 to Michigan in Ann Arbor). For that you need a year like 2017 where the contenders for the #4 spot are 11-1 Alabama, 11-2 Ohio State, 12-1 Wisconsin (who beat no one and lost the Big 12 title game) and … UCF. And the "no brainers" that year were 1 loss Clemson, Oklahoma and UGA teams.

@NorthHallDawg Nah. Ignore the Dawgnation clickbait. Here is the actual playoff picture.

The top 3 Big 12 teams: #14 Arizona State, #17 Iowa State, #19 BYU. Only 1 Big 12 team this year, same as Group of 5.

The top 3 ACC teams: #8 SMU, #9 Miami, #12 Clemson. Only 2 ACC teams this year.

Result: there will be 4 SEC teams and 4 Big 10 teams in the playoffs.

The worst scenario: A&M beats Texas and then UGA. A&M: #1. Tennessee: #2. Texas: #3. UGA: #4. Because among the glut of 3 loss SEC teams UGA will be the only one with 10 wins. For all the whining about the Big 10, the same applies: only Oregon, Ohio State, Indiana and Penn State will have 10 or more wins.

UGA punched their playoff ticket when they beat Tennessee, folks. Dawgnation claims and will claim otherwise, of course, but only for clicks.

IF this comes down to a comparison of UGA, Bama, and Ole Miss for a playoff spot, 10-3 is better than 9-3. With that said, now that UGA is in the seccg, I'm tired of the loser mentality showing up in the media since the announcement was made. The Dawgs didn't get to this point by worrying about losses. Worst case scario is UGA plays A&M for the SECC. UGA loses to A&M they are in and so is Texas, that leaves a three loss UGA, Ole MIss, and BAMA. Tennesse is in via only 2 losses. NOw the committee picks between the 3 loss eam. Two of those teams beat UGA. THe easiest way out is for the Committe to say we just looked at the head to head matchups. Ole MIss blew out UGA, and UGA lost to BAMA, so it's between BAMA and OLE MIss. One is a historic program and the other isn't. Who do they pick? THEy didn't play each other. So, BAMA had 2 bad losses to teams with losing records in the SEC. Shouldn't Ole MIss get in?

We all know what happened last year. We lost one game in the past couple of years and we didn't get in. And that game was to BAMA. And suddenly we're not still one of the 4 best teams in the country. LOL! So much for the "value" of playing in the SECCG.

Being in the SECCG is a divisive situation. Normally I would feel great about it, but with this seemingly non-motivated bunch-it suddenly becomes a scary situation. It's like we have everything to gain and everything to lose, What if we play Texas again? Think they're not gonna be snorting to whip our A%$?

CFP made Illinois #25 in order for Penn St to have a quality win. Total fraud.
