Good grief. I remember the good ole days when newspapers actually did their jobs and reported information. Here are some dates for context.

    1. The portal opens a week from today. What's the big deal? Why couldn't he have just waited 6 days, traveled (back) to Atlanta with the team and announced Sunday night?
    2. Because early signing day is Wednesday.

This means 2 things. First, it is in Julian Humphrey's interest to broadcast to potential landing spots to teams before Wednesday. Second, it is in Kirby Smart's interest to let the CBs that he wants to sign Wednesday from high school and next Monday from the portal know that Humphrey won't be on the roster for the next 2 years.

Did Kirby tell Humphrey that he wasn't going to have a scholarship going forward and that he needs to start looking elsewhere? Did Kirby tell Humphrey that he wasn't going to play in the SECCG? In either case no need for Humphrey to defer. Starks is playing to the crowd but he knows the deal. College football is now a business, which means the players too, not just the programs and coaches.

Maybe Humphries is a better fit in a 4-3/4-2-5 defense that plays more zone. (If so, Georgia Tech could use him.) Or maybe he wants to reinvent himelf by putting on 10-15 pounds and moving to safety. If so, he should go the mid-major route. Either way, everyone knows that he has no present at UGA - let alone future - so there is no point in pretending otherwise.

Doubt Kirby told him he had no spot.

Maybe he's told other players in the past that they may want to look elsewhere, but not this one.

Good luck to the guy, but he shouldn't go to Atlanta for the Texas game.

    Maybe he's transferring to Texas.

Simple…..Julian feels he has received all of the "development" he needs on his resume plus he realizes the player like Daniel Harris are better and he will never see snaps past a reserve in the event of a Harris injury…..even then there are better reserves…..announcing early was bone headed immature mistake, as having Kirby and the Dawg Coaching staff behind you is a tremendous PLUS….Julian knows where he's headed….program near Houston where he will start for two years and save for injury perform well enough to get into the NFL. Not only did he blind side Kirby/coaches right before the biggest game of The Dawg season…. he takes away one of every coaches "comforters"…..DEPHT, plus for Kirby it presents an added distraction…..HUGE, NO NO. Julian was a good player….IMHO, had he focused and put in the work he could have regained at least a rotation position…..alas, you can't put the beer back into the broken bottle, only the coug's, or collies get the beneficial lap off the floor.

Get him away from the team!!! Let's not have another Texas disaster like we had at the Sugar Bowl when Kirby let all of the quitters hang around the team in New Orleans and poison the well.
